"While the cricket world is abuzz with anticipation that the Little Master will score his 100th international century during the second Test in Sydney, beginning tomorrow, some recent Australian players have not forgiven his role in the Andrew Symonds 'Monkeygate' scandal," The 'Herald Sun's' Malcom Conn wrote in a column titled 'Sachins Sin City'.
The writer goes on to state that the 'Monkeygate' scandal will forever haunt Tendulkar.
"...despite the unparalleled greatness of his achievements, some Australians lost respect for him when he gave completely different accounts of what took place as a key witness in the Harbhajan Singh-Andrew Symonds racism meltdown," he claimed.
The row escalated after Symonds accused Harbhajan of racially abusing him. Tendulkar was among the players, who appeared as witnesses in the case, and stated that the feisty off-spinner merely used a Hindi abuse which sounded like monkey.
Tendulkar's role had been criticised by former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who in his book 'True Colours', described the appeal as a "joke".
The outrageous write-up was dismissed by cricket experts as merely an attempt to distract the Indians. Tendulkar is on the verge of getting his 100th international century and is widely respected by fans Down Under.
"I get along well with Malcolm Conn but I am delighted to disagree that Sydney 2008 represents a moment of shame for Tendulkar," tweeted noted commentator Harsha Bhogle.

It is all part of a 'mental game' at which the Aussies are past masters. Let us ignore them and let Tendulkar reply with his bat--by scoring a century. That would shut them up, these loudmouths of 'convicts colony' Sevengrains
International Cirketer Sachin Tendulkar is a legend and a hero of millions of cricket Lovers . The Australian Newspaper comments on Sachin Tendulkar has put the millions of cricket lovers in dilemma that Why this Newspaper had to write so negative on Sachin Tendulkar . The Newspaper should feel sorry and apologize for this writing that has upset millions of cricket Lovers of Sachin Tendulkar .
Sachin would have been better served by keeping off the Maverick Bhajji"s tirade against Symmo. Bhajj is no angel ,he is a guy who has a past of having a serious Personality disorder. What was the Slap Gate all about in the IPL.Bhajj should have been banned for a good 3 years from IPL. The Aussie"s are no saints when it comes to fair play.Sydney test of 2008 is a testimony to Aussie spirit.
If at all its the whole Aussie team and Ricky CHEATING Ponting should be ashamed with their behavior, Not Sachin
It is not fair on the part of the Australian media to invent a non-existent matter. In India, everybody knows that the people from Punjab use "MAAN KI --" without meaning anything serious unless it is a serious case of abusing another. And even in the worse case, it is a common abusive word that is used by many without really intending to hurt. Moreover, the concerned Australian, Andrews Symonds, is happily enjoying himself with Sachin and Harbhajan in IPL playing under Sachin and also in BIG BOSS, hence it is apparent that such a writeup at this moment amounts to mischief-mongering.Indians should ignore such ignoble men and their writings as has written the piece under review.
On behalf of all cricket lovers in Israel....Good luck Sachin ! We are keeping our fingers crossed for you. Good Luck India! Do not get distracted by what the newspapers say or write. Concentrate on victory.
OZ media will use cheap tactics to make their country win i never thought of it. They need to treat a game as a game not as a war. They need to be reminded of pontings frustration when he smashed his bat into the tv set after getting out in world cup. Atleast indian cricket team doesn't show such frustration. winning and losing is part of a game. If OZ media can use such tactics against one of the greatest batsmen of all times indian media can do the same thing. This will lead to a very dirty game they should be reminded. Indian media should take this issue very seriously so that our team feel strong.
Aussies lost respect for Sachin ? The writer must be blind...did he not see the standing ovation given by Australians when Sachin walked into to bat at MCG just a few days ago ? I think the Australian team is scared of the Indian team winning at SCG this week. They are just playing mind games to bring the Indian team down...
Sachin is greater than the Don, but the Herald Sun's Malcolm is just a Conn.
Australians should be the last people to be talking about sportsmanship. Australia might have been world champions but they have never been popular outside their country unlike the great West Indian team of the 80s. This is another attempt to distract the focus of Sachin. I hope Sachin gives a fitting reply by scoring a big hundred.
enough and more can be said about the australians character on and off the field.. for a country that idolizes its players who are some of the greatest sledgers in the sport as well as know for their unsportsman like behaviour.. its is sad that an old grave is being dug up to distract the indian team.. if is is about cricket then let them shut their mouths up and focus on winning while maintaining the spirit of the game.. its about time that we too stop being a country of spineless spectators that allow them to malign a sportsman of the calibre of sachin..
