Kollam (Kerala) Terming the Sri Ram Sene as a 'threat' to the country, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday said the Centre was watching its activities and expected the Karnataka government to take firm action against the outfit, accused of being involved in the Mangalore pub attack.

"Sri Ram Sene is a threat to the country. The Centre is watching its activities with great concern", the minister told reporters.

Condemning the activities of the outfit, he said "no organisation can become a self-styled police force. That cannot be allowed. Sene had already crossed limits. They cannot say what one should wear, one should eat or to where one should go," he said.

Asked if the Centre could impose ban on the outfit, he said "let us see what Karnataka Government is doing. We expect Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa to take firm action against them as promised", he said.

Members of the Sene were allegedly involved in the attack on women at a pub in Mangalore on January 24 which sparked a national outrage.

NO OBJECTION IF GOVT DECIDES TO BAN SRI RAM SENE: RSS

Disassociating with Sri Ram Sene, whose acts of moral policing in Mangalore evoked nationwide indignation, the RSS today called for stringent action against Sene and said it had no objection if the government decided to ban the outfit.

"RSS considers attacks on humans as heinous crime. We do not have any objection, if the government decides to ban Sri Ram Sene," RSS South-Central Zonal Secretary K Narahari told a press conference in Bangalore.

"There is no relationship between RSS and Sri Ram Sene," he said a fortnight after Sene activists attacked girls in a Mangalore pub and issued threats to disrupt Valentine's day celebrations.

Narhari said RSS demands that stringent action be taken against Sri Ram Sene.

The Sene activists barged into a pub in Mangalore on January 24, beat up girls and others, triggering a nationwide outrage against the outfit.

"It is incorrect to link the policies and activities of Sri Ram Sene to the Sangh Parivar", Narahari and B Nagaraj, a pracharak of RSS South-Central Zone said.

Reiterating his outfit's opposition to pub culture or Valentine's day celebrations, Narahari, however, said "the RSS does not approve any violent activity in relation to incidents like Mangalore pub attack, episode involving abduction of the CPI(M) Kerala MLA's daughter or coming February 14 Valentine's day protests.

"Instead RSS welcomes healthy debate and public awareness programmes on these social related issues".

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also blamed media for "blowing up" the Mangalore incident saying "immature approach by few media towards these issues is a dangerous development", Nagaraj said.

Here is an Idea by Village Boy on 14 Feb 2009

I think we round up the cows( the daughters ans sisters) of sanghis and sena members and take them to some good pub with nude dancers, to make them conform our Indian culture as depicted in Khujrraon, Ajanta and Ellora. I think it will get the point across through the thick skulls of sanghis.

Stop hooliganism in the name of culture/religion by Sidharth on 13 Feb 2009

Sir,Using the word moral cops for these SANGH PARIVAR sponsered rightwing hooligans are an insult to our constitutional law. These goons are behaving like extra-constitutional authority through out the country making mockery of the provisions of rules of law. The media unfortunately takes a biased view in not reporting the open link they have with the hydra-headed monster RSS whose divisive agenda have already led the nation to pay heavy price in shape of home grown terrorism. The self styled "moral cops" of this type should be declared as "terrorist" and dealt with heavy hand by the state power, otherwise India would become ungovernable one day due to these fascist forces.Regards.

Pink Undies by Dr. Ashwin Sood on 12 Feb 2009

Its wa scompletely wrong on the part of any so called 'sena' to manhandle girls and if they are really worried about Indian cultural values they should learn ' sheel and karuna' from the life of Ram. It was equally cheap from the 'so called ' women and girl saviours to think of 'taking off' their undies to send.Thay can do it in India and to the Hindu organisation.I suggest them to send their 'pink Undies' to the Talibans and their supporter and to all the corrupt politicians who are palying with the 'honour of mother India' By gaining cheap publicity they all prove their intellectual level.

pink undies by undie girl on 29 Sep 2009

Thank you for comparing the sena and fundamentalist hindus to the Taliban. It was very apt. They are no different.

Rama Sene - Muthalik by SIVASUBRAHMANIAM on 12 Feb 2009

RSS does not support and nobody wants this type of Hippocrates like Muthalik and his associates. The why the governments are not winding up Muthalik and a hundreds of his associates and put them inside. Is it not possible with out Pota? First of all create a fear that these types of people will be put in dark, so that no other guys do such mockeries, that to against women. What ever may be the reason, this type of ransom Moral Policing should not be tolerated. If they are interested let them start any counseling campaign and try to change the attitude as they like if public like them. Whether or not BJP and its associates are responsible for these acts, their venom like propaganda of Hindutva is the main reason tofor the raise and growth of such organisation. BJP has brought the division of the society on the religious lines. FIRST OF ALL PUT ALL THES GUYS BEHID THE BARS TILL THE VALENTAIN DAY. AND THEN THINK OF IT.

We have seen many many closed door dealings watched by the people. Like Bombay attack.

DEMOCRACY VS DICTATOR by a patel on 10 Feb 2009

i agree to what our dear PC has to say regarding the muthalik issue.first of all get rid of this muthalik or whatso ever out of the lime light.he does not deserve this unwanted glamourism, being a cheap anti national man that he is.why is he trying to bring dictatorship to our country,Isnt there a judiciary system left in India through which he can lead his issues or he has got his own selfish motives which should be crushed at grass root levels.JUST ASK HIM OR HIS GOONS IF HIS FAMILY WOMEN WAS BEATEN UP BY GOONS ON MORALS GROUNDS OF SOMEONE ELSE ,HOW WOULD HE TAKE IT???????????????????????

PC is right and very rarely, RSS dares to speak out truthfully!! by woody on 10 Feb 2009

PC is right ..in that the goondas who are tarnishing Lord Rama;s name should be punished in an exemplary fashion. RSS , finally in the last few years the first time i am hearing some sensible and bold statement from RSS. First time they have been bold enough to stand on their own and say against goondas.I believe common people should decide themselves to beat up anyone who tries to do such activities as these goondas do. If they try to beat up someone, people shud instead beat them up really hard so that they shouldnt raise their hands on anyone in future..

Banning of Sri Ram Sene by padmesh kumar varma on 10 Feb 2009

Dear Sir, The RSS must be having its own self protecting arguments for not objecting to the banning of Sri Ram Sene and it is good. But the RSS most also not onject to banning of Bajrang Dal,VHP and other organisations of Sangh Parivar whose activities are not different than those of Sri Ram Sene. One can not blow hot and cold in the same breath. Best will be to ban all those organisations which are in the habit of taking law in to their hands.

How about banning Dukhtaran Millat or MIM? by Lekshminarayanan S on 10 Feb 2009

Mr. PC, is Sri Ram Sene has crossed all limits, how about sluts of Dukhtaran Millat which poured acid on innocent girls in Srinagar? How about goons from your ally pro-Paki Majlis Ittehadul Muslimin who terrorised Tasleema Nasrin? Is your indignation limited only to Hindu organisations? Why this double standards? Why don't you jail the rogue MLAs of MIM? Why should you ban an organisation when you can invoke umpteen provisions in the IPC and just initiate criminal prosecution? Isn't all these cheap gimmicks to get some muslim votes? What a pity!

How about banning Dukhtaran Millat or MIM? by Ramesh on 10 Feb 2009

I agree with Mr.Lakshminarayan. Congress will talk only problems in Non-Congress states. they donot comment on Daily problems of states which are ruled by Congress. We have been watching daily crimes in Delhi (as per media reports, Delhi is no.1 in crimes) and In Mumbai, we are watching games played by Raj and his Team. Why Congress is not banning those organisation? What Action they have taken on Afzal Guru who is a terrorist and it is proved? Congress always plays dirty role. Friends, this time, please unite together to throw out congress in coming election.

Dukhtaran Millat by safia on 11 Feb 2009

Dukhtaran Millat is a peaceful organization, never involved in Terror activity.

chidaram's comment on SENA by vivek on 10 Feb 2009

Mr. Chidambaram have no moral right to ban on Sena, First has a home minister he have to SAVE our CITIZEN otherwise MUMBAI will happen always. So first you ban SIMI, Jihadi's

Bigger Issues by rajnish on 10 Feb 2009

Its good to see deranged organizations like Ram Sene getting cornered. In spite of what some of your esteemed readers erroneously think, such organizations damage our culture more than indiscriminate adoption of western morals by our youth. With hundreds dying in our country of hunger and poverty every year there are bigger issues to be tackled than trying to enforce ones prejudiced version of "hindu" culture for the sake of publicity. My suggestion to all supporters of Ram Sene is that everytime you feel like attacking a young woman because she does not fit your definititon of "bhartiya nari", pls hold back your anger, go to the poor quarters of your city and buy a meal for a beggar woman and her miserable child. You would do this country much good.

Outrageous Humiliation by Gopal on 10 Feb 2009

Such a act of intolerant brats in the country where we think tolerance is tool and weapon. In the country where Gandhiji and the others thought they should give freedom to the citizens, they would have never thought that the country would have advanced to such a level where the police or the military give the powers to such a act of hooliganism. This outraging and the government should interfere and solve this issue. Hinduism doesn't mean that the others who would like to enjoy should not be doing it at their expenses.

Ram sena by V V S Prasad on 10 Feb 2009

Pc is directly promoting pub culture and prostitution. Then why should they ban Cigarettes. Let him Condemn Ramdoss who is against Pub culture. Why the Govrnment wants to promote liquor and prostitution in this country? Pc has to answer. The biggest threat is Congress with divisional politics based on minority appeasement and caste poltics.

Sri Ram Sene by V K Das on 10 Feb 2009

RSS is shedding crocodile tears because they know that there is great indignation in the country on this issue but why do they not condemn similar activities by Shiv Sena, MNS and Bajrang Dal?

OVER REACTION BY GOVT. by ramesh on 10 Feb 2009

Thanx to approaching elections and with an aim to attack the BJP in Karnataka, an unheard of organisation has become a national threat. The incidents in Mangalore are to be condemened and those concerned should be punished per law. But to term an upstart outfit such as RS, as a national threat is laughable. This is vote bank politics at its worst. The country is facing far more serious problems on the security front. Pakistan, in all probability, will escape scot free. The world already seems to have forgotten the Mumbai carnage.Rather than focussing on incidents such as the one in Mangalore, the central govt would do the nation a favour by taking some visible actions in improving the national security. The economic situation is another equally serious issue, given the wide spread job losses.

Ram Sene by J.M.Manchanda on 10 Feb 2009

The RSS comment is curious. One suspects it is doublt-dealing on the issue-sympathetic to the cause (healthy debate on such social issues!) and being publically correct (ban on ram sene). It is akin to Kalyan Singh promising to protect Babri masjid and then lookong the other side while it was pulled down. There is something sinister about the politics of such jehadi hindus and they must be marginalise by the liberal voices. They are an embarrassment and bring a bad name to our faith.

Ram Sene by Gopi on 10 Feb 2009

Actually, it will be a good idea to produce the people who called Muthalik or whom he called in past one month and see if there was any exchange of calls between him or his deputy and any Congress / JD (S) leader(s) / secularist media. I bet we will have a big surprise on our hand.

Typical cowerdice of RSS by B.N.Gururaj on 10 Feb 2009

RSS has never known to be very corageous when it comes to taking on its opponents. It finds it easier to join its opposition than defend itself. Now, it is disowning its own off-shoot organisation. At least, SRS does more than merely talking, or praying at Shakas!

Useless PC by Jayaraman on 10 Feb 2009

Let PC be clean himself to speak aout others. We all know that he is another puppet of Antonia Maino alias Sonia. Ban congress! The nation will then progress.....Jai Hind

secular India is united India by Biplav on 13 Feb 2009

It is not PC or Sonia but the notorious sanghparivar with BJP had sown the seeds of terrorism in the country on 6 th Dec.1992 for which my beloved nation is reaping the consequences. The hidden agenda is fully exposed and hindu talibanism is not going to work any more.

Useless PC by Ramesh on 10 Feb 2009

I totally agree with Mr. Jayaraman. Ban useless Congress Party and Bring BJP to Power. We can assure Terrorist problem will solve

India by Tejaswi on 10 Feb 2009

There will be a huge transformation ,Big revolution No doubt for good.It is just a matter of time.

Congress is repsonible by Gopal on 10 Feb 2009

I think media and Congress are more responsible in highlighting these incidents in a baised manner.

Congress is repsonible by Gopal on 10 Feb 2009

I would say PC should reign Renuka Chodhary for instigating people to take law in their hand. PC should ger Renuka banned from speaking in public as she has advocated 'Pub Bharo' Abhiyan as if she is the bar dancer or she own quite a few pubs in the country. She should be slapped with POTA or Macoca for breaching peace and creating hatred. It's Congress who deserevs to be banned.

Some objectivity, please. by Jas on 10 Feb 2009

you are showing you own bias and total lack of objectivity when falsely accusing media of the bias. It is media's job to highlight those incidents. How is Renuka taking law in her hands by 'Pub Bharo Abhiyan'?

Congress is repsonible by Gopal on 10 Feb 2009

It is Congress who should be banned. As Congress is the one who repealed IMDT act to legitimise Bangladeshis in India, It's Congress who repealed POTA to let the terrorism flourish, It's Congress who supported MNS in Maharashtra to abuse North Indians, It's COngress who is playing Monirytism by pamparing Muslims against Hindus. Seeing all these we feel Ram Sena is right. Congress deserves to be banned.

Congress is repsonible by Gopal on 10 Feb 2009

Even I am not part of Rem Sena, but teh Congress's minoritysm has hurt Hinduism. Congress Chief Minister of AP YSR Reddy is a Christian and he is all out abusing Hindu faith by organising Evangelism and converting people in and around Tirupati. COngress is the one is supporting MNS. Going by all this aroung we feel it is the Congress who should be banned and their leaders like PC, Sonia and YSR Reddy should be placed in Jail.
