PCG member arrested in connection with alleged hijack plan

Guwahati, February 11: Peoples' Consultative Group (PCG) member Lachit Bordoloi was arrested on Monday from Assam's Dibrugarh district in connection with ULFA's alleged plan to hijack an aircraft from the airport in Guwahati

Bordoloi was arrested following a statement given by arrested ULFA leader Manoj Tamuli who was trained by Afghan militants in hijacking a plane, a senior police official said.

Bordoloi, also the secretary general of human rights body Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti, was arrested from Moran in Dibrugarh district while he was travelling in a bus from Tinsukia to Guwahati, said the official on condition of anonymity.

PCG had been constituted by ULFA for carry on peace talks with the Centre on its behalf.

Bordoloi is being brought to Guwahati for interrogation.

The police had searched his house at Jyotinagar in the city and seized a laptop and two CDs on Sunday, the official said.

The police are also interrogating senior advocate and ULFA lawyer Nekibur Zaman as Tamuli had also mentioned his name, he said.

    Reddit allows users to submit news articles and other online content to the site. Users also give articles a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Reddit then uses those votes to build a user profile and to find articles to recommend to you. Users can also submit comments on items posted to the site.
