Manmohan singh

Chennai Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voiced India's strong condemnation of the Israeli strikes in Gaza and expressed the hope that international community will get together to restore peace and normalcy in the region.

In a first public statement on the ongoing strikes, he said India strongly condemned these incidents and regrets the loss of many innocent lives.

"It is our hope that the international community will come together to restore peace and normalcy," he said inaugurating the seventh edition of the three-day Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Chennai.

He also declared India's "unstinted and unwavering support to the just cause of Palestinians".

The strikes have caused a lot of tensions in the region, where he said a number of Indian workers were living. At least 660 Palestinians, including over 200 children and nearly 100 women, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel launched its military offensive on December 27. Close to 3,000 others have been wounded in the attacks.

PM condemns Gaza strikes, supports Palestinians by Philip on 14 Jan 2009

Dear Prime Minister - Sir, Israel and Hamas are brothers. Let them settle their matter. Why we are worrying. Let us worry about us. What is happening within India. Take care of all these problems we are facing today within India.

jews were driven from their land long back, now they are careful by sarma on 13 Jan 2009

if necessary for votes, congress may go to the extent of condemning the death of the mumbai terorrists, no wonder.

PM is right to condemn by Ice on 10 Jan 2009

Reading all the comments on this article, I feel ashamed to be one of you! Either you people does not have any clue what this conflict is all about or are mere uneducated communal elements. First of all Hamas is NOT a terrisit organisation. Only US, Israel and UK has labelled it as terrorist organisation. And whoever has any knowledge about the conflict and international politics will surely understand the bias of US and of UK in favor of Irsael. USA is biased because of the big Jew lobby in the country and UK has to be with Israel because it created all thsi mess in the first place. We have to understand that irsael is occupying the palestinian land and surely the agressor in this case and that does make Hamas freedom fighters. Hamas is a democratically elected government and of course cannot sit idle and do nothing when Irsael is occupying its land and have confined the palestenians to an open air prison.

M is right to condemn by Ice on 2009-01-10 00:41:4 by Philip on 14 Jan 2009

Israel does not captured others land. But Israel recaptured their own land (Jesus Land). Israel and Palastine , they are brothers. They themselves will solve their problem. Your comments is uncalled for. Israel is Gods own people. Jesus will come back to earth to rule the whole world, united Jerusalem will be the place where Jesus will rule. The whole world will see this, if you are alive then, you can also see.

Please someone remove this 'PM' by Siddharth Gupta on 09 Jan 2009

"unstinted and unwavering support to the just cause of Palestinians".....has Manmohan gone completely mad? So now we know that this Indian government will never standup to the terrroists and protect us, the ordinary citizens...i'm truly ashamed of my country's leadership..instead of applauding Israel for its courage and its dedication to its people, Singh has pledged unwavering support to the Palestinians..

Indira was extremely close to Yaser Arafat so Manmohan has to say something parallel by gary on 09 Jan 2009

Following Indira's policy to keep vote bank intact?

ME. PM, PLEASE THINK by INDIAN on 09 Jan 2009

HAMA'S IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. MR. PM DON'T YOU KNOW THAT?WE SUPPORT ISRAEL. THE LAND BELONGS TO ISRAEL. IF PALESTINE NEEDS TO BE GOOD NEIGHBOR, PLEASE STOP THROWING STONES AND ROCKETS AT ISRAEL.

what normalicy? by casual observer on 09 Jan 2009

a return to normalcy is a return to rocket attacks. Look at israels northern border after it's strikes on lebanon. quiet...expect to see the same with gaza. international condemnation, cries of shame on israel and finally some quiet for the people in south israel.

PM by Niranjan on 08 Jan 2009

That's why we will never be a superior nation. We are so much into vote bank politics that we have to support palestians, whose national aim is terrorism. Israel is fighting them tooth and nail to exist. We should take lessons from them. BUT NO, OUR POOR MUSLIM BROTHERS WILL FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. RIGHT MR. PM?

PM condemns Gaza strikes by Asad on 08 Jan 2009

We are proud of you Mr.MMS you have really demonstrate indian sentiments toward the atrocities meted out against innocent palestinian by international terrorist Israel. As we passes through the streets of indian cities we found our people are showing too much anger towards the terrorist Israel who is mercilessly slaughtering people of palestine. Keep it up, keep speaking truth even all world against you.

Mind your own business Mr PM. by Amol on 08 Jan 2009

Mind your own business Mr PM. It takes immense guts and valour to slam terrorism that too when you're right in middle of blood-thirsty enemies. If you followed the foot-steps of Israel, which is doing all it can to maintain safety and pride of its people, you would be hailed as national hero for eternity.

PM condemns Gaza strikes, supports Palestinians by Asadulla A.M. Sirkhot on 08 Jan 2009

At last our PM has dare to speak the truth

shut up by expert on 08 Jan 2009

shut u paki he is a cowered, that dose not mean he represent the indian view it is congress view go to street of india and u will see common indian are supporting israel but also feel sorry about gaza citizen.

wise decision by PM by Saccha Gujarati on 09 Jan 2009

its right to support palestine, coz gulf countries provide employment and oil to our country. If india will support isreal we will have to beg internationally and 7 crores indian will have to repatriate and it will incur 6 billion $ loss every month. think before you leap and think before you sleep. very wise decision by PM. We are not sending our army to defend palestine but we are developing our relations with other countries. Regarding pakistan, they are not same comparing to palestine. Only one thing common between them, both do not have anything to loose, but we have a lot to loose. be wise and think diplomatic, nail the shoes, only when needed. Jai hind

Double policy by Raj Guru on 08 Jan 2009

JUST CONDEMN; THATS ENOUGH. by ANIYAN on 08 Jan 2009

IT HAS BEEN AN UNFAILING INDIAN POLICY OF SUPPORT TO PALESTINIANS. INDIA WAS THE FIRST COUNTRY TO DEMAND CLOSURE OF ISRAEL HIGH COMMISSION IN BOMBAY, SOON AFTER THEY MADE AN UNPRECEDENTED OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE DURING INDIRA GANDHI'S TIME. THAT WAS A TIME WHEN ARAB COUNTRIES TOO STOOD BY INDIA; ALTHOUGH JORDAN GENEROUSLY CONTRIBUTED TO PAKISTAN IN 1971 BANGALADESH WAR. BUT, EXCEPT UAE AND OMAN, NONE BOTHERED TO CONDEMN THE MUMBAI TERROR ATTACK, FOR WEEKS TOGETHER; NOT EVEN KING ABDULLAH, WHO MENTIONED INDIA AS HIS NO.2 HOME. SO, PM DEPLORED IT NOW; WHEN THERE HAPPENED A TRUCE. IT IS OK, WELL DONE.

Did hamas condemn Mumbai carnage ? by Nanda on 08 Jan 2009

Did Hamas condemn the Mumbai terrorist attacks and supported India ?

India's comments on Israel's actions by Prema on 08 Jan 2009

Why do you comment on Israel's actions? Did Israel comment on India's incapability to protect its citizens? And that India is letting terrorism spread like water under the carpet? No one has a right to shoot rockets into a sovereign state. No sovereign state should take rockets shot at its citizens. My sinecre request is you take care of your citizens and let Israel take care of it's citzens. That's basic leadership quality.

India's comments on Israel's actions by Prema on 08 Jan 2009

Why do you comment about Israel's actions? Is it beacuse Israel has not said anything about your incapability to take care of your citizens? and that you are letting the terrorism spread like water under the carpet? Maybe, it's time you make sure your citizens are safe and let Israel take care of its citizens. Nobody has a right to shoot rockets into a sovereign state. And no sovereign state should keep quiet if its citizens are harmed. I request you to learn the basics of protecting the citizens as a leader.

Please stope this by shyam kishore on 08 Jan 2009

Manmohanji : Envy Israel .they are striking the terrorists for keeping their citizen safe from the attack . You must condemn Hams for the plight of the Palesteniens .Its time we should hit terror hard and stopped playing votebank politics

Restore peace and normalcy ?? by Karthick on 08 Jan 2009

Before going far to Middle east, try raising voice in your region. Bring peace to Sri Lanka first, our inefficiency in dealing with this matter have brought our enemies like Pak and China to our corridor.

Shame on our community by jaswant singh on 08 Jan 2009

The prime minister is not capable to supress terrorism in his own country and he is blaming israel who has succesfully eradicated terrorism. Moreover inorder to get muslim votes in the coming parliment election he supported palestines. PM is really a shame to our sikh community who are always bold

what is he thinking? by Anon on 08 Jan 2009

What is Singh smoking? Was he asleep during Mumbai attacks? Let the Israelis fight it with the Muslims. India has no business getting involved. At most we should make a statement that voilence should be ended by both parties.

International eunuchs by Ganesh on 08 Jan 2009

Learn to keep your own house in order before shedding crocodile tears for terrorists far off.Even in the midst of mounting security problems in our own country, the UPA dispensation never forgets to nurse its vote banks regularly. We have a jihadi deputy foriegn minister who since his swearing in,keeps touch with only islamic countries.Intead of learning a lesson or two from Israel on how to deal with terrorism, they are spreading the message of pusilanimity to others who consider their nation dearer compared to our leaders.A PM who loses sleep over the plight of terrorist families must truly be concerned about the terrorists of Gaza.
