New Delhi Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday conveyed to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the concerns in India over growing protectionism in the US. Singh raised the issue and pointed out that the Indian business community was concerned over the growing protectionism in the US when Clinton met him here, PMO sources said.

Clinton insisted that the US did not have protectionist policies, the sources said.

India has been worried over protectionism in the US that has been increasing in view of the economic crisis, affecting industry in this country. New Delhi has been emphasising that the developed nations should not take recourse to protectionism as it would deepen the crisis, especially in the developing countries.

During the meeting, which was followed by lunch hosted by the Prime Minister in honour of the visiting dignitary, the two sides reviewed the bilateral relations that spans across a wide range of sectors. Clinton said the US wanted India to play an active role in regional and global forum. She also reiterated President Barack Obama's invitation to the Prime Minister to visit the US, the sources said. Clinton also met Leader of the Opposition L K Advani.

The US should protect American Jobs by discontinuing issuance of Visas for cheap expat labor. Cheap labor hurts all communities including Indians in the US who have followed traditinal routes by getting an education in the US and working their way up the ladder. It is also unpatriotic for Indians to avail of free education in their country and take the first flight out to the US or Europe instead of contributing back to their own country.

US Protectionism by Dr. Ram Chander Sharma on 20 Jul 2009

The American are not fools, they patent the things world arround and earn billions of dollars while leisuring . US is a captilist economy, what Indians expects of them? Their multinational will loot India. They envy the huge Indian markets and growing materialism here.

US protectionism by dna on 20 Jul 2009

Dr. Singh should reiterate protectionism by the US. Kamalnath did a great job earlier and Dr. Singh and his present team should carry on this. US must address the issue of subsidizing farm products and trying to dump on developing world. US must address open trade in its entirety including intellectual/human capital. While US MNC's operate globally, the Govt of US insists local hires and opposes outsourcing. US says India is a major trade partner. However, Singapore, Chili and Australia enjoy special work visa streams. Us follows "per country limit" rule while issuing Green cards. This puts India (and China) in serious disadvantage. A country with 1 billion population cannot be equated to a country with few millions. Obviously, the skilled labor output of India will be higher proportionately, notwithstanding a good education system in India.

Let us follow our own tradition in farming. We do not require GM seeds and nuclear manure. Ask Mrs. Clinton to keep them for developed countries.

This bhondu Sadhu is of no use to us by Surekha on 20 Jul 2009

Then there was a story of a robber thief who would lure his preys by sweet talk on how to tackle robbery and thievery by pretending to be a Sadhu. What crowd he got around him - of fools whom he later robbed this way or that. Moral defeat initiates all other defeats. Congress has gone many steps in that direction. Any one can lure them in to a meaningless talk; like this madam figure is far too much for them to say NO to.

Farmers in india by sathya on 20 Jul 2009

n recent years, there have been many cases of farmers' suicides in India due to debt and crop failure. The United Progressive Alliance government has waived off billions of rupees in loans for farmers to stem the suicides.Clinton said farming needed to be organised. The situation can improve 'if we can put more dollars back to the farmers' instead of allowing middlemen to step in.

Clinton to discuss terror by D.A.Srinivasan on 20 Jul 2009

Sir,we have had several rounds of talks with American govt On the subject of terror. They want India to exercise immense patience in dealing with the source of terror namely Pakistan .They do not want India to react the same way they reac ted after 9\11.They expect India to show maturity of acting defferently after 26\11.They are very articulate in telling us not to act but to talk to the country which is the source of terror.Should we give importance to what they say or device our own means of tacling the problem. without their involvement .Why are we wasting our time on their so called dignitories when they are not really interested in addressing the terror which affects indi./
