New Delhi, February 14: India on Thursday launched an initiative to forge working cooperation among navies of the Indian Ocean region, with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying such ties were of "paramount importance" to tackle threats of terrorism from the seas.

He said high level of trade and economic growth was being witnessed in the region which dictated the need to ensure safety and security of the sea lanes.

Pointing that recent years had seen rise in crimes like terrorism, piracy and smuggling of narcotics and arms in the ocean region, the Prime Minister said there was need for cooperation among the navies of the littoral states to prevent these transnational crimes.

"The perpetrators of these crimes are well organized and well-funded transnational syndicates who take full advantage of the vastness of oceans.

"The need for cooperation among the navies of the region in preventing such transnational crimes is, therefore, of paramount importance," he said inaugurating the two-day Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, which is being attended by chiefs of navies of almost all littoral states.

Iran, which had been invited, did not send a delegate.

Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta said the initiative was not to aim at forging a military alliance but was an attempt to bring interoperability among navies of the region to tackle the growing menace of terrorism in sea and natural disasters.

"Though some nations have kept out for reasons, we have kept seats reserved for them," he said. Defence Minister A K Antony also addressed the inaugural session.

Is it ignorance or failing knowledge of current affairs of India's relationship with regional countries that the PM is hoping for some kind cooperation form them.Is he not aware of the fact that its these countries which are promoting, encougring, supporting and financing terrorism and and high scale smuggling like activities.India was,is and will ever be thorn in their eyes.Terrorism and crimes involving that are major policy of their politics against India. They don't want to see India progressing or developing into major power ,atleast in this region. Its centuries old deep-rooted hatered against India which keeps them away to cooperate or to establish friendly relations.India has stay firm at its own and depict its fully motivated presence in the region. As said DUNIYA JHHUKTI NAHIN JHHUKAI JAATI HAI. For that India needs a leader with courage, boldness and thoughtfullness. This PM with his good-will overtures and CBMs etc has made the country so weak that countries like Nepal,BDesh and SriLanka disrespect and distaste India.

How long Indian politicians can go on with such hopes of ccoperative actions to fight terrorism and security of the nation, which is above all other initiatives. No othr country,in this region,is ready to cooperate or share Indian concern to fight terrorism. This problem/danger is considered by all other countries India's own problem.India has to safeguard its territorial waters absolutly at own apability and capacity. If atall some country shows will to participate such joint action will be merely based on diplomatic overtures and without serious intrest. Moreover its true that only India is suffering/is being attacked from all sides by foreign terrorist groups while the othr nation have some kind of terrorism activities but they are purely home-grown conflicts.I find it,otherwise too, foolish and self-degrading initiative to ask for cooperation in guarding our sea lanes. If tday this tommarow Anthony will ask for cooperation from bordering countries to protect/safeguard the Nation. Before going so far first of all the PM has to stop with CBMs and his weakest methods of dealing with neighbouring/regional countries and then the Defence Minister should make sure all borders are sealed i.e with Pakistan,BDesh,SriLanka and high imposed vigilance on Nepal and China border.Asking for such cooperations is showing own weaknessnes and degrading own capabilities.

The nations in the Indian Ocean maritime regions of who don’t address the concern of India should be construed as hostile to fight international terrorism.
