PMC plans to train youth, fill void by North Indians

Pune, March 16 With various sectors getting affected due to North Indians fling the city after the agitation launched by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed to train local youths with specialized skills to fill up the places vacated by the North Indians especially in the construction industry.

In a proposal tabled in the standing committee, the civic administration has sought the permission to train locals in and around the city for carrying out the responsibilities earlier held by the North Indian workers in various sector.

“The Urban Community Development (UCD) of PMC is already engaged in training the local youths to take up self-employment. There are many unemployed youths in and around the city who can take up the work left by North Indians in the city,” it said.

The PMC has been getting demands from various sectors to provide skilled manpower to work in place of the North Indians in various sector.

Thus, the youths from the city and adjoining villages can be trained to meet the industry demands, civic administration proposal said.

To cater to the construction industry for skilled workers, the civic administration said it proposes to pay stipend to the participants as their family is dependent on them for managing the daily household needs and it wont encourage to workers to avail the facility if they are not paid anything.

The PMC training will also help in improving the standard of living of poor citizens after provided with skills of various professions, it added.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena after its agitation against the North Indians had also urged the district employment office to take opportunity to provide jobs to locals in the industry facing shortage of skilled workers to meet the demands.
