“Democracy was defeated by money and manpower in this election. We were made to lose the polls due to this,” PMK founder S Ramadoss told a General Council meeting held in Chennai to analyse the party's debacle in the hustings. PMK had lost all the seven seats that it had contested.

He asked the cadre to stand united and strengthen the party for the next elections. “There is a good future for us.

Let us work together and make the party regain the winning streak in the next polls.”

In a resolution, the council thanked AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, MDMK leader Vaiko, CPI leader D Pandiyan and CPI-M leader Varadharajan for their support during the polls.

Alleging that the Electronic Voting Machines were rigged in the Lok Sabha polls, a party resolution demanded that EC revert back to voting through ballot papers instead of using the EVMs.

On the Sri Lankan issue, PMK said India should support other countries demanding a probe against Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for alleged war crimes.

The resolution also urged the state and the Centre to setup a monitoring committee for curbing the collection of 'huge donations' by certain educational institutions in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, former Union Minister and PMK youth leader Anbumani Ramadoss expressed hope that his party would perform better in the next elections.

He said that he soon would go to each district of the state and meet the youth for seeking their support.

“When I was a Union Minister, I could not meet my people in the state. This is the right time that I could meet them personally and get their support”, he added.
