Ludhiana, January 12 A Compuer centre funded by the Parent-Teachers Association opened at Government College, Karamsar, Rara Sahib, today.

The centre was inaugurated by Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, former cabinet minister and general secretary SAD (B). Grewal congratulated the principal and the staff of the college, who collaborated with the parents to open the centre.

Stressing upon the importance of computers, Grewal said that youngsters are now considered illiterate if they don’t have computer education. He added that this is a golden opportunity for the students of the college, as they would now get this facility at their doorstep.

Grewal highlighted that in this computer era, when our very survival depends upon computerization, this is a very marvelous achievement in a rural institute. Grewal announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh to the institution.

Speaking on the occasion, College Principal Dr Sushma Gupta said, “Immediately after I joined the college about two months ago, I felt the need of providing computer education to the students. With the help of the Parent-Teacher Association, we have opened the computer centre.”

Dr Gupta pointed out that the most satisfactory part of the whole effort is that the computer center is the first of its kind in this rural belt, where the students were almost bereft of computer education. Those who were keen on computer education used to acquire it by commuting several kilometers daily.

The college honoured Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal on the occasion. Grewal honored the students who participated and won laurels for the institute by winning top positions in the youth festival this year. The winners, who participated in the inter-class Hindi quiz organized by the Hindi Department of the college, were also honoured.

Peeyush Jain, Chief Executive, Management InfoTech System, was also present on the occasion.
