The winner and the runners-up from the tourney will qualify for the All India Inter-university Cricket Championship slated to start at the same venue - the Guru Nanak Dev University from March 3. As many as 22 probables are attending an 18-day conditioning camp at the PU grounds under the supervision of coach Girish Bhanot. This is, in fact, for the first time that the PU team will have to go through the qualifiers for the all-India tournament.
"Usually, the girls attend camp here in Chandigarh and have to play matches far away in South, East or West zones. But, with the tournament in North Zone this year, the conditions will suit are players more."
Players from MCM DAV College (Chandigarh), GCG-11 (Chandigarh), PU Campus (Chandigarh), KCW (Ludhiana) and SDP (Ludhiana) are attending the camp. The PU team had lost in the pre-quarterfinals in the last edition of the All-India inter-varsity tournament held at Kolkata.
The hope to better their performance this year with the inclusion of experienced bowlers like Harpreet Kaur (MCM DAV College), Ankita Rapa (PU Campus), Rajni (GCG-11), Yugpriya (MCM DAV College), Rajender (KCW) and Shalu (KCW). The batting revolves around Harpreet (MCM DAV College), Rajender (KCW), Rekha Gill MCM DAV College), Ankita Rapa (PU Camps).
PU team will play their first match on February 27. The final team will be announced two days before the team departs for Amritsar.
