PU syndicate meeting on March 23

Chandigarh, March 18 A syndicate meeting will be held on March 23 at Panjab University to consider the plan for establishing the school system in the university. The proposal is aimed at establishing the school system in the University and making the optimum use of academic resources by putting in common programmes under one umbrella.

Vice-Chancellor R C Sobti has mooted the proposal so that the school system can help in utilising the research facilities and inter-departmental interactions without interfering with their autonomy.

Another important proposal on the agenda of the meeting includes giving an option to the students pursuing five years B Sc, in case, they wish to discontinue after three years.

The proposal states that students, who do not wish to do honors and just pursue the Bachelors degree, should be given an option for the same.

Another important point listed in the agenda includes considering requests from the employees regarding withdrawal from the pension schemes. There are a few employees who had opted for the pension scheme as compared to the provident fund but now wish to stop the pension and take the collective money as provident fund.

Other points on the agenda include booth distribution during the Senate elections.

The list of the polling booths will be prepared after the criteria proposed will be presented in the syndicate and approved by them.

The re-employment issue of the retired teachers is expected to be discussed in the meeting. The proposal includes hiring of retired teachers for the posts lying vacant in various departments.

The syndicate will also be taking up the case of B B Goyal from UBS department. There are allegations against him that he wrote a book and recommended the same to the students.

It has been alleged that he gave the books to 81 students and the money for the same was withdrawn from the university funds. The members have demanded an inquiry against him.
