Chandigarh, January 9 There was high drama at the residence of Panjab University Students’ Union president Tejpal Singh Cheema when two women, claiming to be his girlfriends, invited mediapersons to “expose” him.

The women reached Cheema’s one-room annexé when he was not around. They said they wanted to teach Cheema a lesson and asked mediapersons to record Cheema’s reaction when he returned home.

The presence of mediapersons, however, alerted the police, who took the women girls to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 for medical examination. The duo’s statements were recorded and a case was registered against Cheema on charges of wrongful confinement, assault, outraging modesty and criminal intimidation at Police Station-3.

According to the complainant, who claimed to belong to politically influential family, Cheema had been using women for personal gains. The complainant, who is a resident of Rajpura, met Cheema at the company where she was working in Mohali. “Cheema, along with a few of his friends, came to our office in Mohali and saw me for the first time. His friend took my business card and Cheema started calling me on one pretext or another. This is how we got together and started meeting. Cheema promised that he would marry me. a couple of days ago, I checked his mobile phone contact list. I got to know that he had been making such promises to other women as well. I contacted a woman whom Cheema had been going around with for the last two and a half years and called her here. We want to teach him a lesson and he should be sacked as PUSU president,” said the complainant.

The complainant said Cheema assaulted her on Tuesday night when she asked him to explain why he deceived her. She said he forced her to stay with him and harassed her mentally and physically. Newsline contacted Cheema, who was unaware of what was transpiring at his home. On being told as what was going on he disconnected the phone. When he was called up again, Cheema denied that he knew the women.
