PYC, Horizons, Pune Markers secure wins

Pune Hosts PYC Giants managed to beat TPJ (Tables Pool Junction) Destroyers 2-1 in their opening round match in Group B in the fifth edition of the PYC –ATC Snooker Challenge 2008 tournament being held at the PYC Gymkhana billiard tables on Wednesday.

In the tournament which is being participated by 47 teams also saw Horizon Dox Devils squeak past Corner Pockets Hawks 2-1 in a Group ‘G’ match and Pune Marker's got the better of Parampara Super Kings by an identical margin from Group `H'.

Gamers Anonymous a group comprising mostly of collegians, who had created a flutter in the inaugural year of the meet in this PYC (Hindu) Gymkhana-ATC Shipping and Clearing Company routed Hustlers Tormentors 3-nil.

The tournament was inaugurated by PYC (Hindu) Gymkhana president Shashi Vaidya and honorary secretary Subash Lodha. The tournament director Salil Deshpande welcomed the guest while Arun Barve delivered the vote of thanks.

Results: Group B- PYC Giants bt TPJ (Tables Pool Junction) Destroyers 2-1 (Salil Deshpande lost to Rohan Agashe 60-73, 55-44, 34-67; Arun Barve bt Siddharth Pethe 3-51, 40-36, 52-44; Chaitanya Halbe bt Vitthal Dhamale 66-8, 79-47);

Group G- Horizon Club Dox Devils bt Corner Pockets Hawks 2-1 (Yogesh Sharma bt Deepak Motwani 49-19, 51-40; Lokesh Diwane bt Virendra Sharma 71-38, 65-39; Harcharan Gupta lost to Shabbir Poonawala 63-58, 17-59, 23-63);

Group H- Pune Marker's bt Parampara Super Kings 2-1 (Vishal Kadam lost to Jaydeep Khandekar 28-57, 8-67; Kumar Shinde bt Akash Padlikar 46-36, 26-58, 71-48; Vishal Shete bt Jaideep Deshpande 67-41, 63-54);

Group F- Gamers Anonymous GA Tigers bt Hustlers Tormenters 3-0 (Kanishk J bt Aditya Hule 78-9, 71-31; Sameer Bidwai bt Sachin Dhopade 49-28, 73-61; Sai Prasad bt Vipul Parekh 51-8, 82[56]-15).
