New Delhi It was a tough role reversal for Abhishek Bachchan who plays father to Amitabh Bachchan in "Paa" but the young actor chooses to train the spotlight on Big B, saying that the veteran has delivered his best performance till date in the film.

"'Paa' will be his best performance till date but at the same time with every character Paa plays, he improves and gives his best. I would say that he always comes out with his best till date with every new role," Abhishek said in an interview.

The 34-year-old had earlier created a world record for covering the most number of cities in a promotional tour for 'Delhi 6' and now he becomes the first actor to play reel life father to his real life father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, in their home production.

But the actor chooses not to bask in that glory and says that it will be his father's best performance till date.

In the movie, director R Balakrishnan, has presented the 67-year-old megastar as a child suffering from the rare disease of progeria, which makes him age fast.

Abhishek said that he instantly agreed when Balki narrated him the story as it was a lifetime opportunity for him.

"When Balki first told me, 'I want you to play father and son' my first reaction was 'What's new in that?', he then added 'I want you to play the father and Amitabh Bachchan the son'. This was an opportunity of a lifetime," he said.

The actor who has shared the screen with his legendary father in films like 'Bunty aur Bubli', 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna', 'Sarkar', said that he enjoyed the father-son bond on the sets of their latest film.

"Balki's brief to me was very simple, I had to be best friends with my father's character 'Auro' throughout the film, and since Paa and I are best of friends in real life too I really enjoyed playing Paa's Paa!" said the actor. When asked whether it was tough playing the father of his real father, Abhishek said that he enjoyed the unique experience throughly.

"Actually, it has not been tough at all. I would say it was the exact opposite, it was a lot of fun," he said.

The film has created a buzz with Big B's turn as a 11-year-old 'Auro' and Abhishek reveals that he has seen several new dimensions to his father's acting during shooting.

"I see him evolve and improve every passing day. He is reinventing himself on a daily basis. Every time he faces a camera he gives a new and fresh dimension to his performance," he said.

Abhishek who finally tasted commercial success with films like 'Dhoom', 'Guru' and 'Dostana' after a series of early flops in his career, admits that box office records do matter a lot.

"Success does boost your self confidence and the self belief. It tells you that you are doing something right and most of all it is a sign that your audience is willing to accept you." said the Junior Bachchan.

Comparison by emmarcee on 20 Jan 2010

Compare Amithab with his son? WE will not do that. Do n't try to even pretend that you can be compared to your dad. It is sad , we know, but true. These are the very few instances where the sons can never overshadow the great father. Maniratnam is a great director who can make a chair act and look good. That is exactly what he did with this son in Guru. Watch it again. There are very few frontal face shots of this son dude. All the shots are from strange angles, why? Maniratnam knows that the son is not talented nor handsome. But Mani was hired to make him a great actor. So he took old Nayakan theme, gave it Ambani twist and made Guru. Then Amitab bought the best girl in India for his son. First she had to be detached from all other connections including Salman. Probably Paa should stop playing the game for son. That picture of Amitan on son's shoulder says it all.

amitabh abhishek paa by roger on 19 Jan 2010

yes 101% agreed it is amitabhs greatest perfomance (Paa) though in unlimited movies countless he has given memorable perfomance,he is really great great great actor no one can compare him, but this slanted eyed abhishek is really headache enjoyign success(i am sure it wont last long due his dad) his solo hero movies msot are super bumber flops example big budget drona.paa du eamit and story if it was someone else instead of abhishek it would have done double business or more, abhishek shoudl work behind cameras i am sure he will be great as director as an actor its headache to watch him and his acting .sad.he is amitabh only son roger taiwan

AMITABH IN PAA by Rajesh Vyas on 13 Nov 2009

While agreeing that Amitabh is a fantastic and brilliant actor, certificate from a not so successful son to a father is indeed meaningless and expected.
