Addressing the Delhi Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the Assembly Session, Khanna said production of water would increase by another 30-35 MGD once the plant begins receiving full supply.
“We also hope to receive another 80 MGD of water after Haryana completes work on the Munak canal. The water from this canal would be sent to the proposed water treatment plants in Dwarka and Okhla,” he said.
Khanna said the Delhi Jal Board would also complete construction of recycling plants at Haiderpur, Wazirbad, Bhagirathi and Chandrawal water treatment plants by September 2008.
“This will enable utilisation of around eight percent of the water, which is otherwise lost during the treatment process,” he said.
The DJB is also trying to get water from Bhakra Beas Management Board to help the Nangloi water treatment plant function to full capacity, thereby benefiting areas of Hastsal, Nangloi, Najafgarh, Naseerpur and Palam, the L-G said.
Khanna also said that the DJB was in the process of constructing 53 new underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations in the Capital.
On the DJB’s efforts to rid the Yamuna of pollution, the L-G said the villages located on its banks in the Capital “are expected” to be fully sewered by 2009.
While listing power, water and transport as the state government’s priority sectors, the L-G said “health, education and social welfare were of utmost importance to the government apart from issues of unauthorised colonies, housing for slum dwellers, upscaling of industrial estates and relocation of polluting industries”.
The government is also planning to introduce an online tax payment facility and bring all government hospitals under the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care for accreditation, the L-G said.
To reduce dependence for power on other states, Khanna said, the government is also setting up a gas-based combined cycle power plant at Bawana.
Referring to the public distribution system, the L-G said the government would allow rations to families which hold the Above Poverty Line cards, and having an annual income of Rs one lakh and below who were getting only 40 percent of their full ration quota earlier.
