Padma Bushan for Gowariker and Kalyani

Pune, January 25 The phone hasn't stopped ringing at Dr Vasant Gowariker's residence in Model Colony. A former scientific advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr Gowariker is among the two Puneites who have been awarded the Padma Bhushan. The other Padma Bhushan awardee is B N Kalyani, chairman of the Kalyani Group.

"I am honoured to receive the award and I will be going to Delhi with my wife to collect the award," said Gowariker, soon after his name was announced. Gowariker said he has been with the government for many years and out of the five posts he currently held, four were for the government of India and one for the state government.

Dr Gowariker currently holds the posts of Professor Satish Dhawan distinguished professor (ISRO), President of India's nominee on Manipur University Court, Imphal, Chairman Advisory Committee, Sugar Technology Mission, Government of India and also is the chief editor of the Fertilizer Encyclopedia and the Pesticide Encyclopeadia (a government of India project).

Similar was the case at B N Kalyani residence after his name was announced as a Padma Bhushan award winner for trade and industry. Kalyani, who is recovering after the mishap in which his chartered helicopter crash-landed at Mysore Infosys helipad a week back, was unavailable for comment. His son Amit Kalyani said it a was moment of honour for the family.
