I am apalled at the Padmashri receipients. Is the selection process fair? How come they have ignored Dharmendra.Has he contributed less to Indian cinema than Akshay,Aishwarya.I have lived abroad since last 20 years,to this date everybody recognises Dharmendra not Aky or Aish. But who can say anything about the unfairness of the Indian awards, because the jury itself is filled with undeserving persons.

Padmashri Shame by Uday Bhan on 27 Jan 2009

It's a shame that People like dr. Kamla Singh who have conducted more that 1 lac 50 thousand free eye operations in and around Varansi and Mughalsarai even fails to get his achievement's recognized. Aishwarya Rai Bachan gets Padma Shri for no contribution for the wlefare of society and Arts

Padmashri by Uday Bhan on 27 Jan 2009

PADMA SHRI to Aishwarya Rai bachan! For What? Has she contributed to anything....it seems India has fallen short of Talent! It's a shame that people like Dr.Kamla Singh are not even considered for such awards. Dr.Singh's contribution to the society is far far more than atleast Film Stars. He has camped and completed more than 150,000 eye oprations in and around Mughalsarai free of cost and this guys even struggles to find place for nomination, just because he is not rich, he does not have political connection etc etc....Shame on the board members who select candidates for awards...Such awards are loosing credibility .

No Indian award have any merit by Jay on 26 Jan 2009

Does anyone care about these awards? NONE of the Indian awards (including the film and science/research awards) are based on merit, but on lobbying and whom the political establishment wants to appease (under personal gratification and political completion).

Best Wishes by Ameya Palekar on 26 Jan 2009

Congratulations Mr. Shekhar Gupta for Padma Bhushan. Thank you for the masterpiece of jounalism thru Indian Express...

Padma Bhushan by C2 on 26 Jan 2009

Journalists should not accept awards which are national only in name but sponsored by politicians. Five decades ago, A N Sivaraman of Dinamani run by the Express group refused the award stating that a journalist cannot and shall not accept any award, lest it should be seen as a gratice by the rulers giving the award. Hope all journalists, today and future follow the practice.

right or wrong by Deshbandhu on 26 Jan 2009

Too big a list for Padma awards. What is Harbhajan singh doing in the list? He abused/Slapped and was banned from cricket. What is Mrs. Rai Bachchan or Akshay kumar doing there.? Govt. should come out with full clarity about the selection procedure.

Shekhar Gupta Padma Shree by gauri on 26 Jan 2009

So ultmately this time around Shekhar Gupta did not miss the bus, as all his fellow participatory journalists had been conferred the same honour by this government. That included Vinod Dua, Barakha Dutt, Vinod Sharma. Alas! Rajddep Sardesai is still out. I fail to understand why he has not been conferred Padma Vibhushan despite his all attempts to depict Mrs. Gandhi as tthe panacea of all ills India is faced with and using his channel CNN-IBN as the means of launching Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Obama of India. Indians must have been cursing the day when aristocracy (dynasty) is always gloated as democracy by these journalists

Qualified through bias by romesh.sharma on 26 Jan 2009

Sheikher Gupta Editor-in-chief of Indian Express got rewared for his pro-Congress publications. He did all his best to discredit and defame BJP and other Hindu Orgs.As the matter of fact it was commented by many during last four years that he has/had biased attitude towards opposition. Its this, though wide read, news bulletin that doing its best to bring Sonia and Rahul Gandhi into limelight which is against the interests of the majority.A serious news-paper must be free of bias and behave neutral. But with selfish motives behind the principles are broken. and it pays with decorations and rewards.

Dear Mr. Shekhar GuptaI like to inform that the 15th Nokia screen india award present by Indian express group. I am sorry to inform the awards function was worst ever screen award function I had seen till date. I unable to understand why you choose Sajid khan and Farah Khan to present such a award fuction. When screen started giving award to film industry 15 years ago we hope that they will maintain the dignity and reputation of cinema. But I am very sorry to found that you also lost your values in today market drama. You have given many award to ROCK ON IN MANY CATOGORY but its very hard to find what is wrong with film JAANE TU YA JAANE NA. In my view all the newcomer and evan story is much better in JTYJN than Rock on. I request you Mr. Gupta please look into the matter otherwise people lost faith in your award function. Mr. Ashotosh is totally right in present his case in front of whole film industry that cheater like Sajid

Padma for IE editor by Arun Murthy on 26 Jan 2009

So, it now completes a circle. All these days, SG was blowing the trumpet of the UPA Government, especially its Prime Ministers. Now, UPA repays back SG. I strongly urge the owners of IE to sack SG immediately if at all they want to preserve its independence. Otherwise, the readers will sack IE. God, I am so happy that SG's IE doesn't sell in the South.

Why Nirmala? by Asitava on 26 Jan 2009

Why Nirmala? Because she help conversion of poor Hindu childs to christianity? They could not find Baba Ramdev suitable for this award in place of Nirmala? Its a shame.

PadmaBhushan for Shekhar Gupta by K.R. Prasad on 26 Jan 2009

Dear Mr. Shekahar Gupta, It is nice to hear that you have been awarded a Padma Bhushan, congratulations! However I think it is extremely inappropriate if you accept the award! As one of the editors of an important Newspaper of the 4th Estate, you have to be independent in word and deed. Since these honours are essentially awarded by political parties through their government I think you should not accept them! I know this is hard on you, but I hope you rise up in your readers expectations by refusing.regardsKumar PrasadP.S. What ever you decide, I hope you atleast publish this letter so that atleast you can display the courage of your conviction in the decision that you make.

Padma Shri by Dilip Gupta on 26 Jan 2009

I'm glad I was not there else they would have given me a Padma Shri as well...:) Why Aishwarya and Akshaya are selected? We did not get it. Pls tell me a film they have made people won't forget. Aamir was a much better choice. And If you don't find any one appropriate you don't have to award. Pls don't disrespect a Padma Shri and defame and disgrace this award. Even I won't blame Aishwarya or Akshay, fire the person from the committee who nominated/selected these individuals.
