Padmini, Priya maintain the lead

Mumbai, January 16 On the sixth day of Aditya Birla national under-13 Chess Championship organized by Bombay Chess Association, top Seed Padmini Rout of Orissa and J Mohana Priya of Tamilnadu have scored 7.5 points and are jointly leading the field at the Andheri Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Shalmali Gagare of Maharashtra, NLV Anusha of Andhra Pradesh, Shati Majumdar of West Bengal are following the leaders with 7 points.

In the 9th round, on top board Padmini Rout started the game in Ruy Lopez opening against J Sharanya of Tamil Nadu. Sharanya played g6 other than usual a6 as a 3rd move.

The game was equal in the middle game. Since no progress happened in the end game both the players agreed for the draw.

On the second board Y G Shriharika of Andhra Pradesh played Scotch Game with Mohana Priya. The game went in to the Queen ending and both the players have not taken any risk and agreed for a draw.

On the third board Shalmali Gagre started her game in English opening with Sonakshi Rathore of Rajasthan. Shalmali played some magnificent Knights move and won 2 pawns of Sonakshi and finally the game in 51 moves.

NLV Anusha and Shati Majumdar also won their games against B Pratyusha of Andhra Pradesh and J Janani of TamilNadu. Surprisingly Sonia Deshmukh of Maharashtra held a draw with WFM Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra
