Paintings of art teachers to adorn govt schools

Chandigarh, February 17 The UT Education Department has decided to buy paintings of art teachers teaching in different government schools to decorate government school buildings of the city.

Besides buying paintings from art teachers, the department has also planned to hold a painting competition for children and the paintings would later find their way in different government schools.

Talking to Newsline, Director Public Instructions (schools) S K Setia said, “The activity will boost the creativity of the children. Moreover, we will be able to carry out beatification of the school buildings in the city.”

Another step being contemplated by the department includes painting of murals on the walls of government schools. In painting these murals, the students will be guided by Nek Chand, the creator of Rock Garden.

The education department plans to revamp the government schools fro the next academic session onwards. The inmates of Burail Jail have already been engaged in making furniture for the schools. The assignment is worth Rs 2 crore. The UT Education Department has got a budget allocation of Rs 30 crore to revamp all the government schools of the city.
