Islamabad Pakistan on Monday said it is examining the "information" on the Mumbai terror attacks that was handed over by India to its envoy in New Delhi.

Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said "the Indian Foreign Secretary has handed over some information material regarding terrorist attacks in Mumbai to Pakistan's High Commissioner in New Delhi this morning".

The "material has been received in Pakistan now and is being examined by concerned authorities", Sadiq said in a brief statement.

In New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Indian government had handed over to Pakistan information related to the involvement of elements based in the country in the Mumbai attacks which killed over 180 people.

The information included the confession of Ajmal Amir Iman alias Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured during the attacks, intercepts of phone conversations between the attackers and their Pakistan-based handlers and other material gathered by Indian investigators during their probe into the carnage.

Pakistan has said it will not hand over to India any terror suspects linked to the attacks. It has also said any action against these suspects will be taken according to Pakistani law.

Meanwhile, Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said Pakistan is under no pressure to take action against elements involved in the Mumbai attacks.

Asked by reporters on the sidelines of an official function in Karachi about India's demand for the handing over of terror suspects linked to the attacks, Malik said: "There is no pressure of any sort on Pakistan. The government is not weak. We will not accept pressure from any one.

"We are a sovereign state and we will act according to our own laws...We will act according to the law, there are international conventions and international law."

Malik also said the Pakistan government will take action in the matter only "after taking the nation into confidence".

World opinion by Rajeev on 05 Jan 2009

Hi it seems very good for the Pakistani authority that they avoid leaving such kind of proofs in next attempt of attack. It is very unfortunate that India is still depending on world opinion to come to take harsh action against Pakistan! Why our govt. have to wait for another attempt and massacre of our people to retaliate or giving such reply to the nation? Indian intelligence
