BJP-Cong trade charges in MP as parties gear up for LS polls

Bhopal

A day after EC announced a two-phased polls for the Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, ruling BJP and Congress in the state kickstarted their campaigns by trading charges against each other.

While the ruling party accused the Congress-led government at the Centre of adopting a discriminatory attitude towards the state in supplying coal for production of power, the Opposition has rejected the charges as a "mere political stunt with an eye on votes" in the next Lok Sabha elections.

As per the poll schedule announced on Monday, polling in Madhya Pradesh will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 30.

A total of 13 constituencies will go to polls on April 23 and these include Bhopal, Vidisha, Hoshangabad, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, Shahdol (ST), Jabalpur, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Mandla (ST), Khajuraho and Betul (ST).

he other 16 constituencies which will go to the polls on April 30 are Morena, Bhind (SC), Gwalior, Guna, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh (SC), Rajgarh, Dewas (SC), Ujjain (SC), Mandsaur, Ratlam (ST), Dhar (ST), Indore, Khargone and Khandwa.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with BJP MPs had yesterday marched to the Rashtrapati Bhavan where they submitted a memorandum demanding adequate supply of coal to Madhya Pradesh.

"We condemn the incident. We are sorry for the Sri Lankan team. We hope that the players...I read two three names...Samarveera, Mendis...I hope they are safe and will recover. We are shocked by that incident," Home Minister P Chidambaram said in New Delhi.

To a query about the World Cup being held in India and the security arrangements, the Home Minister said, "Let the World cup come. We will provide them security".

"We are shocked at the audacious attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore this morning," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said.

"Terrorism based in Pakistan is a grave threat to the entire world. It is in Pakistan's own interest to take prompt, meaningful and decisive steps to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure once and for all," he said.

The spokesperson said New Delhi offers "sympathies and good wishes for the speedy recovery of the Lankan players as well as of those other individuals who were caught up in the attack".

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said the attack "underscores the enormity of the threat" that emerges from terrorism centred in Pakistan.

He noted that India had been insisting on dismantling of the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and this attack has once again highlighted the need to do so.

Six Lankan players were injured when around a dozen terrorists armed with rifles and rocket launchers targeted them in Lahore. Five policemen were killed in the strike.

John Kerry, are u mad? giving billions to Pak? by Sarath on 04 Mar 2009

I think Pak terror is grown by US by feeding millions or billions of dollars to Pak to create more terror infra. Look at John Kerry seems to be dumbfolded and ready to grant billions without looking at Pak credentials. If US wants to give Poor pak people, donate food supplies just like Somalia, atleast poor will get something, instead of that US wants to give 5billion dollar cheque to pak gov. to encash and purchase military hardware from China and other rogue coutries. Ultimately that money will goes to Pak military to create more ISI infrastructure in India to pull more misguided muslim youth in India. Indian votebank politicians failed to persuade US to not to donate billions of aid to Pak and ultimately that money will create unrest in whole Sub-continent for example Bangladesh BDR's mutiny also coming under ISI acct. So this idotic aid by US is propagated by some high fonda politicians like John Kerry misguiding whole agenda. i dont know what Biden is doing?

Foolishness or ignorance!!! by romesh.sharma on 04 Mar 2009

Exactly correct but its astounishing the USAmerican law-makers,many of them, have repeatedly agreed to and openly said that the money and aid given to Pakistan is flowing into wrong hands. This aid/help is apparently used by ISI and Terrorist groups for weaponizing and training purposes.Even for operations like Mumbai is also partially financed with the money that comes from USA and Pak sympathizing Islamic countries.

Exterminate Paki terrorists by Hero Vaz on 04 Mar 2009

Who doesn't know that Paki terrorism is a threat to the whole world? It is old hat. And just saying so is not going to help. Action has to be taken and taken first against the Paki army and its ISI branch, who are the main sponsors of extremism and terrorism.

Paki terrorists by Hero Vaz on 03 Mar 2009

That Paki terrorism is a threat to the world is nothing new. The fact has been well known for the last more than ten years. And the terrorism has thrived because of state sponsorship.

Terrorism but different motives by romesh.sharma on 03 Mar 2009

Terrorism is hineous crime which is known fact to all and those who support/encourage terrorism are still worseenemies of humanity.Happen to read couple of comments stating LTTE a terrorist org/group which again is correct but nobody can compare this and the Pakistani (AlQaeda,Talibans,LeT and so on)terrorism which has become dangerous to the whole civilized world.LTTE doesn't go to other countries to kill people and destroy properties.LTTE does have motives(though wrong) through which their confrontation is limited to own country and against Govt. They do have their resentments caused by supperession and injustice.Tamils couldn't get right place/recognisation,integrity or say equality within own country and its known they did try through peaceful means. The trouble escalated only after repeated refusal to listen their voice by the Govt mainly of Singhalese.Anyway that is different story but now this is crystal clear that Pakistan is hot-bed of terror/ists/ism.World community must unite

stop these speeches please by shyam kishore on 03 Mar 2009

Dear spokesmen .Please do not talk too much .Instead of throwing salvos like this divert your energy to do something positive in your country . We too are encouraging LTTE and the politicians of all hues and colours in Tamilnadu has come out open in their support for LTTE including the UPA ally DMK . In Kerala UPA is sharing a long standing alliance with IUML which has radical communal links and indicted in many communal violence in India . Plesee stop these kind of giimmk and Angel talks and clean your back yard . Today it Pakistan and tomorrow its India who is going to be the breeding ground for terror unless we take steps to eleminate the enimies within
