"We are determined to defeat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," Qureshi told reporters in a joint media interaction with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Foggy Bottom, headquarters of the State Department.
Emerging out of the meeting along with Clinton, after the delegations of two countries had an extensive discussion, Qureshi said Pakistan is willing to work with the American administration to fight extremism and terrorism.
"We had an excellent meeting. There's a convergence between us, there's a willingness to work together, and I see a lot of hope in the new administration, the new leadership," Qureshi said.
Earlier, Qureshi defended the peace agreement with militants in Swat valley describing it "a local solution to a local problem" and assured that it would not affect Islamabad's commitment to get rid of violent extremism afflicting the region.
"The logic behind this agreement is a local solution to a local problem, which is quick dispensation of justice. It is not any appeasement towards militants," Qureshi said. Qureshi was talking to reporters after meeting his Afghanistan counterpart Rangeen Dafdar Spanta at a joint stake-out with media.
"Pakistan's determination and resolve to defeat terrorism is as sound as it was. We are absolutely clear in our objectives," Qureshi said in response to a question.
Responding to media queries, Qureshi strongly refuted allegations that the peace deal means ceding territories to the Taliban militants.
"It is a local arrangement for a local purpose, nothing beyond, nothing that will undermine our commitment to fighting extremism and terrorism and nothing that will undermine the closeness that Pakistan has developed with Afghanistan," he added.
US closely working with Pak on strategic review: Clinton
The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton said the United State is "consulting very closely" with Pakistan in its strategic review of Afghan policy, currently being undertaken by the Obama Administration.
"As you know, we are consulting very closely with the Government of Pakistan on our strategic review of our way forward," Clinton told reporters soon after meeting the Pak delegation led by its Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Clinton, however, refrained from making any observation on the recent developments in Pakistan including the Swat peace deal with the Taliban. "We're going to save our comments for when we have something to say about the results of our joint efforts," Clinton said in her joint media availability with Qureshi at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department.
"There is a very open and fully consultative process which we will be working on and many of these issues will be discussed among us," Clinton said after the meeting. The meeting went nearly half an hour longer than originally scheduled. Details of the meeting were not immediately available.
The top Pakistan and Afghan diplomats have been invited to participate in discussions with Secretary Hillary Clinton and other US officials as part of the Obama administration's review policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Clinton is hosting a tri-lateral meeting at the State Department Thursday with both the delegates.

Nobody in this world trusts you Paki Qureshi, even your 'financier' America who despite knowing you well that you are a terrorist country, Americans continued to finance you, that is because of their divide and rule policy. They want to use Pakistan as an allergy and migraine for India, because the Americans cannot afford to see the growth of India as a world power! You lier Qureshi, while you are housing and protecting the worlds topmost terrorists in your country as state guests, how dare you talk like this?
