Pak national sentenced for 8 years in J&K

Jammu, April 2: A local court has sentenced a Pakistani national to eight years of imprisonment for coming to India without valid documents.

On Tuesday Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, Puneet Gupta held Mohammad Ajmal Chouhan alias Afria Sherkhan of Pakistan, guilty under various provisions of the Arms Act, Foreigners Act and the Indian Passport Act and convicted and sentenced him for a period of eight, five and two years respectively.

The sentences shall run concurrently, the court said. Additional Public Prosecutor Harpal Singh and advocate Dinesh (Amicus Curie for the accused) had argued the case. Awarding the sentence, the court observed that as the accused was in custody for more than eight years, he should be have been deemed to have served the sentences in these offences. The court said the accused should be set at liberty in case he is not required in any other case or proceedings.
