Moscow Describing the "terrorist hotbeds" in Pakistan and Afghanistan as against the interests of Russia and its allies, President Dmitry Medvedev asked the country's security service to work with international partners to prevent and neutralise threats emanating from this region.

"The existence of terrorist hotbeds in such states like Afghanistan and Pakistan most substantially encroach on our interests and interests of our allies," Medvedev, who was the first world leader to visit India after the terror attacks in Mumbai, told the top brass of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

The Kremlin press service has released Medvedev's speech at the annual meeting of the FSB - one of the successor agencies of the Soviet KGB.

"We must jointly, with international anti-terrorism units and international anti-terror community, take measures to prevent and neutralise threats emanating from this region. This also a very important task (for the FSB)," he said.

Calling for "more active" global cooperation in combating international terrorism, Medvedev pointed to "not bad" anti-terror interaction already existing among the members of BRIC group of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

"This is also quite important direction of cooperation (within BRIC)," the Russian leader noted. Earlier, during his meeting with the leader of parliamentary parties represented in the Duma (Lower House of parliament) yesterday, Medvedev had expressed his deep concern at the 'radicalisation' and Talibanisation of Pakistan.

According to the sources in Moscow, during his brief meeting on the sidelines of Russian PM's reception in Davos on Wednesday, Vladimir Putin had conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani Moscow's concern at the terror outfits active on Pakistani soil and their role in Mumbai terror strikes against neighbouring India.

Terror reward by chengweizheng on 02 Feb 2009

According to Confucius: What you don't like should not be imposed on others. Terrorist activitties conducted by those led by the so-called spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, have long been known to the world and in India. However, India is so indifferent to terrorist actions out of its territory. What's more, India not only accomodates terrorists but also give strong support to terrorists. As a Chinese I feel very much sorry for the those victims who suffered in Bombay terrorist attack but India as a country should have reflected its policies of supporting terrorists in its territory against China.

Islamic terrorism by RM on 30 Jan 2009

In the present day anyone who helps and aids Pakistan would be regarded guilty of spreading terrorism in the world. International community should stop all kinds of aid to Pakistan. This will help terrorism die of starvation. And the world will get some relief from islamic terrorism.

Pak terror hot beds.... by k p chandra on 30 Jan 2009

Russia, a victim of the islamist chechen terrorists knows well about the danger from the pakistani and afgani terrorists and the support provided by the entire Pakistan Govt machinery to these terrorists. It is only if the US and China, the other two superpowers realize this threat to the entire mankind and form strategies to take jointly on these terrorists inside pakistan and afganistan so that this diease is finished altogether. The US unnecessarily interefered in Iraq, which was not aiding and abeting terrorists. Obama should learn a lessor from the Shoe episode at Iraq and position US troops inside :Pakistan to tackle the terrorists inside the Pakistan Army. Not only this, the nuclear weapons of Pakistan are also of great threat as in all likelihood they have already been passed on to Al-Qaida hands. Now everyone should target Pakistan and stop all kinds of dealings with it.
