'Pak using terrorists as strategic tool against India'

Washington Pakistan has, over past several decades, been using terrorists as a strategic tool against India to achieve its goals in Kashmir, several American experts have told a powerful Congressional panel, warning the US against mediating between the two nations on the issue.

Testifying before a subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on "Afghanistan and Pakistan: Understanding and Engaging Regional Stakeholders," experts told lawmakers that this dangerous policy needs to be ended.

They also observed that such a policy now seems to have backfired as the same terrorists and extremists groups have gone against the Pakistani establishment, which is reflected in series of terrorist attacks in Lahore recently.

"Over the last many years Pakistan has been covertly supporting Kashmir terrorist groups - now they're called Punjabi terrorist groups - to harass India in Kashmir," said Wendy Chamberlin, president of the prestigious Middle East Institute and former US Ambassador to Pakistan.

"Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad are some of these groups. Indians regard them as just as much a terrorist group as al Qaeda, and certainly the horrific attack at Mumbai is evidence of that," said Chamberlin.

Lisa Curtis, Senior Research Fellow for South Asia in the Heritage Foundation's Asia Studies Center, cautioned the US to avoid falling into the trap of directly mediating in the decades-old Kashmir issue.

'Pak using terrorists as strategic tool against India' by Dinesh on 08 Apr 2009

Pakistan is pushing terrorist within INdia to suuround the army from within and accross the boaders. This is not Good. Sometime we have to initiate a war to avoid a long-term risk. India will have to attack Pakistan to neutralize growing terror tool being developed by Pakistan. Zardari is a snake waiting to bite. Taliban and LET are his game plan.Inida will have to initiate a war to be pro-active - let Pakistan be demolished - this is the right time when Pakistan is too volatile. It is better to demolish Pakistan instead of inviting war within India. Let small fractions fight within Pakistan - Let USA worry more instead of we worrying. we have to be proactive and strke now when the iron is hot - strike.

pakistan by sahani on 06 Apr 2009

when people give up the forfathers cultures, Take alien culture they lose self esteem and develop salve mentality. When indian will learn pakistan can't betrusted. Converted muslim can't be trusted. So give up on pakistanis and take care of yourself. Fight and finish them sooner the better .

God save them!. by Dr.Steve Gunaratne on 03 Apr 2009

As the saying goes...as you sow, so shall you reap !. Pakistanis have not sown any seeds of love, friendship or communal harmony in the last 60 years of their existence. what they have done immediately after becomming independent is - they encoraged some hardline mercenaries to attack the Kashmir part of India and take it over covertly, this happened in the early 1948. Ever since then their only agenda is to harm India in every possible way. I live in the UK and have seen how these pakistanis behave. There is something fundamantally wrong with every pakistani, I dont know whether it has been ingrained in their blood to show rough

Kicks for Pak by Hero Vaz on 03 Apr 2009

And still India maintains diplomatic relations with Pak. How ridiculous. Start treating Pak as an enemy and cut all links with them. They will come down fast and beg for normalisation of relations. The only language the rotten Pakis understand is that which administers strong kicks.

Finally - the West uses the correct term by Venkat on 02 Apr 2009

Finally the West has come around to call them for who they are. Instead of calling them Kashmir rebel - Kashmir terrorist, Ms. Chamberlin called them correctly as "Punjabi Terrorists". They are Islamic terrorists of Pakistani citizenship used by their government. In a way we can equate Pak govt with Taliban, they too as a government supported a terror group to destroy another country. So let us go after Pak; we may not be able afford a full blown battle or send drones, but send teams to eliminate the so called freedom fighters in Muzafarabad and Lahore and rat Dowood, who is hiding in the sewers of Karachi.

PAKISTAN by Impartial on 02 Apr 2009

Here we go again. Maybe it is different than Bush/Powell's WMDs and Iraq, but it is pre-war rhetoric. Watch the documentary "War Made Easy" (you have to watch this). It docs the US media support for wars since WWII. Give the dog a bad name, shoot him and become a hero. It didn't work for Bush. He became a dog. The media overlooked the facts. The US invaded, the rest is history. Who is to say all the media rhetoric is accurate? Who is to say the present Pak Govt is responsible? Can you condemn a country of people? How do we get to the root of the problem? War isn't going to change Iraq, Afghanistan or Pak, just slaughter. War is the best recruiting tool your targets have ever had. Containment and dialog. You can't shoot all Al Qaida or Taliban because the more you do, the more they recruit. Obama being a mole? Hmmm. But why is it that if you take a stand against attacking muslims you are a coward? Not supporting Congress here nor am I against BJP (impartial means I don't take sides).

Pak supprted terrorism by Sunil Kapur on 02 Apr 2009

Since years these type of remarks by so many expert,NGO,Social worker,Defence Analyser from USis published in media Ultimate result Pak gets all the financial help from big brother US and is used against India Is it Drama by US Govt, Hypocracy or just fooling of Indian Govt It is not clear when big boss will punish spoiled out of control Pak I wish there should be terrorist attack om white house organised from Pakistan so that America realises pain of indirectly helping terrorism

Terrorists' Mole? by Rajan Shete on 02 Apr 2009

I have a nagging suspicion that Mr. B.Obama is a Taliban/Al Qaida mole. Otherwise its virtually impossible to explain the 'substantial increase' in proposed American aid, that too in these difficult times, even as Pakistan has started to 'collaborate' with those terrorist outfits more and more openly. I think we Indians must very seriously RE-THINK our strategy in dealing with this 'double threat' ie., Mr. Obama sponsored terrorism. At least Mr. bush was 'dumb'; but Mr. Obama is supposed to be intelligent?!

'Pak using terrorists as strategic tool against India' by Anil on 02 Apr 2009

Every single Indian knows and has known for at least the past 20 years about Pakistan's intention to bleed India. The so called local lashkars have been Pakistanis all along since 1948, trained in that state, armed by ISI and its army, supported with logistics by ISI and its army, given increasingly sophistaicated communication by ISI and its army. Pakistan is a rogue state that has supplied nuclear weapons to other rogue states, and now form part of USA's headache. If the menace of double dealing from Pakistan is not dealt with firmly by USA, then North Korea will seem like a Sunday picnic from Washington's perspective. Talibanised Pakistan will and does have India as its next target. It will not end there, because if India goes you can say goodbye to large parts of the world. Ignore the writing on the wall at your own peril.

Better late than never by Samanya Praja on 02 Apr 2009

Now the US has realised! better late than never Sammy. But be careful. Our seculars and commies will hate you for saying this against Pakis.

Extortion by Suresh Iyer on 02 Apr 2009

Extortion is a very popular profession in most of the muslim ghettos in India. It does exist in other communities too ,though on a smaller scale.I think terrorism is an international extorsion racket as seen from the way US is paying Pakistan for peace.Pakistan is the underworld don among nations and terrorism is to extort money from nations by threats.Cowardly govts like US, Britain and India are not facing them head on like Israel but buying peace by paying or pampering.India keeps saying that its patience should not be taken for cowardice. Make no mistake ,It is well and truly cowardice. (which is synonymous with patience till eternity).

Time is over for Congress by Kamal on 02 Apr 2009

This terrorist country is enforced to the world by Indian politician in 1947. India should go head on with them no matter what other secular country thinks as India is the only one who has been divided just based on the Religion not US and UK. Indian Muslims should also come out of hypocritical speeches to show that they are against terrorism and terrorism has no religion. Not to mention Islamic terrorism in the name of Holy Koran does not need any further proof of this however majority of Muslims do not agree with the Islamic jihad. in India this spineless government should be kicked out and a way should be made for the new government who can take some tough decision to save this country and world. Thanks

SPINE LESS GOVERNMENT by LALITH BHANSAL on 02 Apr 2009

AS LONG AS INDIA HAS A SPINELESS GOVERNMENT HEADED BY THE CONGRESS ALL THESE TYPE OF THINGS WILL HAPPEN.THE CONGRESS PARTY TO GET MINORITY VOTES WILL NOT TAKE ANY CONCRETE ACTION

terrorist of Pak by skumar on 02 Apr 2009

This hs bn now and again showing the evidence that Pakistan is a breeding center of Terrorism, and the said component is being used against India, last 3 decades. Our politicians with their knowledge or other reason did not heed the warning, and stage has come this has become very difficult to contain. One time full supporter of America to Pak is now openly saying tt, Pakistan is covertly using terrorist against India, becoz these people are also equally worried abt this menace, becoz nxt target is America. We need to address this issue with iron hand and hv to keep a track inside India who is providing logistics support to these eliments. Jaago Politicians of India, instead of horsetrading, failing wh India wl not b remain an India in the days to come. Jai Hind.

Strategic Jihadis by Muzammil on 02 Apr 2009

Really. This is unexpectedly surprising. I did not know Pakistan was so deceitful. Oh, if onlly we stopped playing cricket there. Mabye then we would have stopped looking like fools.
