New Delhi Pakistani nationals planning a visit to India long for an early return of normalcy between the neighbours as they feel warm relations alone can end travel hassles they face even in their own country.

The diplomatic stand-off post-Mumbai mayhem has complicated the process of obtaining visa and travel documents. Even if one manages a visa, the travails awaiting in India are a wee bit embarrassing, said Bishop Joseph Coutts of the Faisalabad Diocese in Pakistan.

"The worst (Mumbai siege) happened when things were moving at the right direction. People-to-people contact was very promising and it could have nurtured bonds and created a better atmosphere," said the Church leader, who was in New Delhi en route his ancestral town in Goa.

According to him, prospective travellers to India from the neighbouring country have to submit themselves to unusual formalities. One has to even furnish the resident and identity proofs of his/her host in India.

"The prolonged process has its bearing on the number of visitors. The plane I boarded had passengers half its capacity," Coutts, whose father was a Goan, said.

"There are deep bonds between people on either side of the border. But, once we are in India, we are treated as aliens. We have to run between police stations to prove that we have no sinister plans."

Decline their visas by vrisika on 21 Jan 2009

Indian government should completely put a stop to granting visas to pakis . Disapprove it on the grounds of being suspects of terrorism.

Travel by Jay Parikh on 21 Jan 2009

Pak nationals should not travel to India as India still feels the pain of Mumbai and that is unlikely to go away soon.

Why is this an incovenience at all by Senthil on 21 Jan 2009

Yeah great. You complain about additional security!!!!. Then when one such idiot enters blasts through then you OBVIOUSLY won't be affected to complain about it.. It is high time people crossing these borders over get used to these. There is a limit to what you have to complain about. If US/UK do that it is normal . Why is it such a inconvenience if Indian establishments do that?

Visas by Prem on 21 Jan 2009

As we all know, there are Hindu terrorists too. Does that mean all other countries must stop admitting all Hindus? Give me a break.

pak visitors by Mrv on 21 Jan 2009

I don't see anything unusual in what is being asked. In the United States, everyone including small children are asked to take off their shoes and open all their things up for searches. Even strollers and baby seats are checked randomly to make sure there is no explosive device. If you travel abroad and have an Indian passport even with a green card, you have to show proof of health insurance, proof that you have a job (letter from your employer), and show you have an invitation to a conference or some other proof of the reason of your visit. Even then, you will get a visitor's visa for a week or two at times. That is the price for safety and security. We all submit to this because that is the rule. That is only right.

paki/bangladeshis go back by govi on 20 Jan 2009

Why is this wretched government not stopping the influx of these pakis/bangladeshis. Until these people of Congress are not target they will continue to please the enemy. But we as citizens it is our civic duty to throw them out. Who cares make their living unbearable. Activists and ngos get names from the security people and chase them out.Our government is a disabled and corrupt just swallowing our money. These people are coming as spies in our territory. Take action. Or you will see more Purohits this happens when law and order is zeroed. If they can kill our people we can at least throw them across the borders. Do not employ or entertain them on our land.

Pakis in India by Hero Vaz on 20 Jan 2009

For security reasons, the Pakis in India should be interned rightaway and then deported. Also, no Pakis should be allowed to enter India.

Irresponsible Christina Bishops by Balaji on 20 Jan 2009

These Church leaders and Bishops should shut their bloody mouths up ! How dare they speak about India. Their only aim is to spread Christianiry everywhere at all costs. Ban all Pakis and foreign Christians from entering India.

pakis by Usha Singh on 20 Jan 2009

Indian Govt.must build a long wall preventing all pakis entering India, no visas to any paki irrespective which country he resides in and India should put all the wild animals near pakistan line of control so which ever pakis wants to take risk of entering India he or she is at the mercy of the wild animals.pakis are like the snake you can give the best of it but one day surely they will bite.

BOND TO HOLD INDIA IN BONDAGE TO PAKISTAN by Hindu on 20 Jan 2009

There no deep bond between either peoples or the governments of India

Pak visitors in aftermath of 26/11 by Dr. Paras Deo on 20 Jan 2009

The B ishop Joseph Coutts of the Faisalabad Diocese in Pakistan should know that these problems are the results of the Pakistani antics spread over decades. You get what give.

Pakistanis should't be allowed in India by GK on 20 Jan 2009

Indians should not take chances. Pakistanis shouldn't be allowed to visit India until the normalcy returns and Pakistan stops cross-border terrorism

visa information by K Sanjiv on 20 Jan 2009

What is so unusual? Just apply for a family visit to the UK. Your host's ID, bank statement and other private information is required to be produced. You have to give your finger prints. Other countries ask who your family members are and where they live. The list is long, humuliating and generally applicable to non-caucasians.

Stop Visa by Afzal Ahmed on 20 Jan 2009

For god sack stop giving Visas to pak and bangladesi nationals to India. We dont need them here.

Pak visitors in India face the aftermath of 26/11 by samhit on 20 Jan 2009

It is also a fact that hundreds of Indian nationals also have gone underground after their VISA expired in pakistan! Only thing is that it is not reported in the indian press...

Pak visitors in India face the aftermath of 26/11 by Dr. Paras Deo on 20 Jan 2009

Right now thousands of Pakistanis have disappeared in India. There are no reports of India gone missing in Pakistan. Get your facts right, buddy. The Pakistanis will do anything to remain in India, even get married to Indians. Now, The ISI are training women to carry out terror acts. and India must take all precaution...be a wife in Dubai or not.

Stop the Paks to visit India by TrueTalk on 20 Jan 2009

Dr. Paras Deo, I agree with you. No true Indian will desire to live in Pak unless a terrorist who is looking for training in Pak. The Pak people are brain wahsed for 60 years by all different means, from home, schools, ministry etc that Indian took away their country and they have to get this back. Paks should not be allowed come to India till all terorists are handed over and stop supporting terrorists camps.

Very small price by Kailash on 20 Jan 2009

This is a very very small price which you have to pay for what your countrymen are doing and you people are actively/passively supporting. You should thank our old pussies or so called leaders in not banning you people all together.

Pak visitors by Sajith on 20 Jan 2009

Why should we allow Pakistani's to visit our country? Why should we travel to that terror country? Peace with Pakistan is a dream only. It will never ever happen.....

Pak visitors in India face the aftermath of 26/11 by syed ihab on 20 Jan 2009

Sad but true. The process is the same for pakistani women married to indian men. My wife is a pakistani national and we are based in dubai. It is a real hassle trying to obtain a visa for my wife every year even though I and my children hold an indian passport. The consulate passes the buck to the External Affairs office saying that clearance is still not received. After running around for 2-3 months and begging the consulate staff, a visa is finally issued but once again it is limited to the city where i live. I can't take my wife anywhere out of the city. Visas to the state of kerala are denied outright and people are told not to apply. The government should adopt a lenient policy for women and i dont think they pose a security hazard. What happened in mumbai should be condemned no doubt but common sense should prevail or else we have no right to call ourselves the worlds largest democracy...

USA by Senthil on 21 Jan 2009

Why is democracy in picture? Anyways your whole concept on women is misplaced. Remember how Rajiv died? How exactly do you suggest that we identify only women are terrorists?

Pak visitors in India face the aftermath of 26/11 by Dr. Paras Deo on 20 Jan 2009

Women are being trained by the Pakistani ISI to carry out terror acts in India. Why should India not be wary and take all precautions? Indian gunmen don't kill in Pak hotels but the Paks do.

Who takes the responsibilty? by Rajan Sharma on 20 Jan 2009

I can understand the difficulties involved. But, you see the people who are advocating the socalled Jihad will never even think of you and your problems. I wonder if this is what Jihad is. Is Jihad about putting everyone in trouble? Is Jihad about killing only? Why dont the Indian Muslims who are supporting these Pakistani Terrorists understand that killing is not religious? Why dont you, an Indian Muslim, try to make them, other muslims who are carried away by Pakistani propoganda, understand the reality? In stead of blaming the External Affairs and Consulate, how about taking the responsibilty of reporting the anti national elements and avoiding these kind of happenings in India ????

Ban them forever by voice on 20 Jan 2009

Ban Pakis comming to India .What good that is doing to our country ? .they are spies .do not entertain them

lets rule the world by qaisi on 20 Jan 2009

Get together? by Arun on 20 Jan 2009

Do you guys want to rejoin / reunite with India as India?

Worry for your survival by S.R. on 20 Jan 2009

We will take care of our bright future. You worry about your survival. Good luck with your brotherly Talibani Sharia rules. One more thing, dont come lecturing us on peace. We don't need your 'bloody' advice.

It is a spontaneous reaction of Pakis behaviour with India by praveen k on 20 Jan 2009

IE this is NOT an important news to be highlighted on the headline. This is a spontaneous reaction arising from the Pakis own handywork. If you are so interested and serious of our nation's security, add to the headline questioning the whereabouts of the 9687 Pakistanis missing in India after arrival in India as tourists, cricket fans, and relatives etc. This is the news you patriotic IE journalists should highlight, PLEASE!

Be always alert by Rajesh on 20 Jan 2009

They must complete the formalities and the govt. must be able to track then any time. As most of the Pakistanis go missing once they arrive in India. The few who complain about it must be expelled out of India, as the majority of Indian's life is at stake.

KILLINGS IN THE MAKING by s thulasidharan on 20 Jan 2009

STOP THIS TRADE OF BRINGING TERRORIST INTO THE COUNTRY TO KILL THE INNOCENT CIVILIANS BY THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. WE HAVE NOTHING TO ACHIEVE FROM THESE INTRUDERS THAN THE DEATH WAITING TO KNOCK AT THE DOOR STEPS.

Good for us by Anadi on 20 Jan 2009

People like Joseph Coutts are not aware of the fact that hundreds of Pak nationals have gone underground after their VISA expired. One good outcome of 26/11 is that administrative machinery is on an alert. It is good to treat these incoming Pak nationals as aliens. At least such a routine shall ensure a better vigil. No longer India can afford this "BhaiChara".

Pak visitors in India face the aftermath of 26/11 by Roys on 20 Jan 2009

As those Pakis have elected a govenrment comprised of politicians without any honest intention in punishing those responsible for the killing of innocent people in Mumbai 26/11, despite knowing the facts that their official agencies were involved in supporting those terrorists and as the same government is taking resort to all sorts of trickeries now to rebuff India's demand for justice, the people of such nation should hang their head in shame in taking the ownership of their action and those people better NOT come to India. India do not need such tourists, they have plenty of others visiting from affluent countries.
