Pakistan needs to act fast on India, says Gilani

Singapore Pakistan needs to move swiftly to ease tensions with India, including examining laws in the way of prosecuting militants who commit violence in other countries, the ‘Financial Times’ quoted Pakistan's Prime Minister as saying.

Yousaf Raza Gilani also said Pakistan needed more help from other nations to increase its effectiveness in battling terrorists along its border with Afghanistan, according to an interview carried in the FT's weekend edition.

India and Pakistan have been exchanging heated rhetoric and threats since the Mumbai attacks that killed 179 people in November, which India says were not only carried out by Pakistani nationals but must have had support from Pakistani state agencies.

Pakistan "needed to act fast" to ease tensions, and "if somebody is out of the country and he has proved to be guilty, then certainly we have to look into our own laws as well," Gilani was quoted as saying.

Pakistan has said it would not send any attackers who might be arrested to India for prosecution, which New Delhi would prefer.

Gilani repeated past pledges to cooperate fully with India in the investigation of the Mumbai attack, and to share and publicise its findings.

Pakistan has also been under pressure from allies like the United States to crack down on militants along its border with Afghanistan. Gilani told the FT it had only limited resources to do so and aid would help.

"You are fighting war in Afghanistan with the most sophisticated weapons in the world and the whole world is pouring money into that," Gilani was quoted as saying.

"When it comes to Pakistan, the world should understand that they have to build up the capacity of Pakistan too."

Pakistan Vs India by Subhash Agashe on 30 Jan 2009

The actions so far have been phony. It is proved as much as these things can be proved that Pakistan is heaven for international terrorists. Civilian Government of Pakistan looks to be powerless in these matters.

Pakistan Will have to act this time , Because President Obama is watching. by gary on 24 Jan 2009

President Obama and VP Biden know a lot about the sources of terrorirsm in pakistan. so Pakistan will find it difficult to get billions in donations without acting against terror, being produced in pakistan.

Deceptive practices by Pakistan by Prof. Narumanchi, CPA on 24 Jan 2009

The world should understand that it is not the poor jihadi individuals who committed terrorist activities that need to be convicted. They were used (by manipulation) as fodder and pawns by Pakistani military and politicians of all stripes. It is the whole country of Pakistan with its mind set of jihad and terrorism that needs to be indicted and convicted. Just quarantine the entire country so that other countries are not affected by its disease.

shameless Beggars out to make more money in the name of tackling self produced terrorism? by gary on 24 Jan 2009

Beggars like Musharaf, Gilani and Mr ten Percent have been acting as middleman and made tons of money in the name of tackling terror that is being produced in pakistan, using a part of the same money. But now President Obama and VP Biden know the truth and Pakistani leaders have to find another way to get donations for maintaining their luxurious life styles.

President ?? or Cancer ?? by Rajan Sharma on 24 Jan 2009

There is nothing new in this, all the leaders of Pakistan, starting from the first one, have been begging for more funds in the name of development for the poor nation. Gilani will, like others, fill his pockets and say good bye to Pakistan. It is unfortunate that our Pakistani brothers and sistres never had any leader who ever thought of doing something for the country. The education, the most basic requirement of any develpoment, is in shambles. These innocent people are educated the hatred against India and they have no other choice, but to pick up the guns. Pakistan does not need any leader any more, all pakistanis have to come togeather on the streets and get rid of these selfish office bearers. And start fresh. India was and is never a threat to Pakistan. Their own leaders are the biggest cancer to their country.

Gilani's begging spree by Paras on 24 Jan 2009

Pakistan seems to be blackmailing the international community. Musharraf managed to get billions of dollars by using the same tactic and now Gilani is talking the dito rethoric. They do a minimum anti-terrorist show and get their coffers filled. In reality Pakistanis are broke so now Gilani has started a new show called " Sympathise with Pakistan". DON'T FALL FOR THIS

No alms to land of terrorists by Suresh on 24 Jan 2009

There go the wise Papis again with a begging bowl, alas ! US has nothing to offer (from its own pockets at least, as it seems). China has vested interests, just curious what happens next. This help will be undoubtedly used to further terrorism ! So there !

Not trustworthy by romesh.sharma on 24 Jan 2009

How shamelessly Mr Gillani and other Pakistani leaders can ask for international help is astonishingly disgusting. In other words its tactical way of begging. They are used to it.As the maater of fact Islamic fanaticism and terrorism is Pakistan's own creation which was/is being used as state policy which cause atrophy in its whole polity and a reason to mistrust.Having taken so much aid/help from the US and other nations during these eight years no substantial and serious action has been taken. The terrorism has increased to highest level instead. The aid taken in the name of war against terrorism is spent for weapons against India. The pledges to cooperate is an excuse to appease/convince the world commnity to milk out more cash and clean face.Pakistan will never cooperate is the only fact.Sending or handing-over terrorist to India is not the immidiate need to mention but to arrest them and publish their identities with photos is needed to prove intentions of cooperation.Lies and lies
