The four-day meet, which carries a total prize purse of Rs 4.5 lakh, will be held at the Talimabad Squad Complex under a slightly changed format in boys under-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 categories besides the men’s section.
As for the girls, entries will be provided in under-11, 15 and women’s categories.
The organisers have also invited some Pakistani players in order to provide adequate exposure to the Indians who will be coming from Mumbai, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Mayo College (Ajmer), Chennai and Kolkata besides from Delhi.
The championships begin on Saturday at 8 in the morning and conclude on January 29, with a social and cultural evening followed by a gala dinner, keeping in mind the guests from Pakistan.
The meet will also provide interaction between players from the two countries, both off and on the courts bringing a healthy competition, camaraderie and long-term relationships.
The quarter finals are slated for January 27 followed by the semi-finals the next day and finals on January 29. The semi-finals and finals will be played in the afternoon.
With and without controversies, squash in the country has reached greater heights, thanks to players like Joshna Chinappa, Ritwck Bhattacharya, Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal and some private sponsors like the Mittal Champions Trust.
In fact, as recognition of the sport’s growth in stature in recent years, the Sports Ministry has accorded utmost importance by including it in the list of top priority sports.
