"Musharraf has been asked to speak as the 'Big Speaker' at Stanford University when millions of us Pakistanis want him to be tried for his crimes. Please take time to contact the office of the President of Stanford University, condemning the invitation and asking Stanford to cancel the event," said a plea by Samad Khurram, a Pakistani student at Harvard who shot to fame last year for refusing to accept an award from the US ambassador in Pakistan.
"Please refer to the specific crimes of Musharraf, especially the treason of November 3, 2007, the unconstitutional National Reconciliation Ordinance, the missing people, the high-level corruption and illegal allotment of lands, the destruction of institutions and absolute misuse of power," Khurram said in his appeal.
"In an email to her US spokesman Mark Seigel, (slain former premier) Benazir Bhutto had put the blame on Musharraf for her assassination if that ever happened," Khurram added.
Musharraf is being hosted by Standford University as this year's Big Speaker and will deliver his keynote address on "Terrorism and Extremism - The Need for a Holistic Approach" on January 16.
A post on Stanford University's website stated: "As the former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf held 'the world's most dangerous job', according to Time Magazine. He has twice come within inches of assassination. His forces have caught more than 670 members of Al Qaida in the mountains and cities, yet many others remain at large and active, including Osama bin Laden.
"Long locked in a deadly embrace with its nuclear neighbour India, Pakistan has come close to full-scale war on two occasions since exploding a nuclear bomb in 1998. No stranger to controversy, President Musharraf has faced challenges with high stakes for the world at large. He offers an unparalleled view into the centre of a region where the eyes of the world remain focused.
"President Musharraf's insights into Pakistan and its role in today's global challenges from the economy to trade to energy are not to be missed," the post stated.
Though Khurram gave email IDs and phone numbers of Standford University staff and asked Pakistanis to ‘spread the word’ about Musharraf and urge the varsity to cancel the lecture, not many agree with Khurram.
"Way to go! Musharraf was so much better than these guys. I'd love to see him speaking. I wish he comes to the UK for some lectures too," wrote Anas Imtiaz, a Pakistani based in Britain in response to Khurram's appeal.
A blogger known as Aijaz agreed, "This is great for Pakistan. Unfortunately, the illiterate population of Pakistan fails to realise what is good for Pakistan. They prefer corrupt politicians over their freedom, education and development."
Another blogger also opposed the move to prevent Musharraf's lecture, saying that "even if we don't agree with him (Musharraf) and loathe him, why should one choose to call Stanford University and further embarrass and defame our country? When you are outside Pakistan, you should act as a Pakistani."
Standford is hosting Musharraf along with several other organisations, including the Center for International Security and Cooperation, the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, the Bechtel International Center and the Muslim Student Awareness Network.

It was great to see Musharraf at Stanford. His remarks were wonderful and his responses to the large Indian audience provoked a sense of Pakistani nationalism. I cannot wait to see Musharraf back in politics. Mr. President super job, you make us proud to be Pakistani, you Commando training, your spotless and honest career make you an ideal leader. May God Bless you!
Where is our secular brigade of COAG (Coalitionagainst Genocide) when Musharraf was given a Visa to visit USA? How is he better than Narendra Modi ? Or it does not matter ? People whodied here are Hindus and Hindu life is expendable ?
The CIA wishes to honour its long term henchman who helped bring the Soviets to heel, and to hell with S Asia, including the whole caboodle of India - Pakistan - Afghanistan!!! If Pakistan has multiple masters, so does the US!!! The CIA and State Departments are something else, very identifiably different from the civilians and their government! And the American Area Studies Depts., Study Abroad Progs. etc., strong at the Stanford, are nothing but CIA hives of covert activities!!
NO ITS THE TURN OF MUSHARAF, GET YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS PAKCKED READY. AT ANY MOMENT ZARDARI WILL SEND YOU OUT OF PAKISTAN, THIS IS THE TRADITIONAL FATE OF PAK LEADERS....
Its shame that a University is asking " Mother of Terrorism " to speak on it. Mushraff must be tried as a CRIMINAL in UN court.
The invitation to Mush by Stanford shows that the Americans love back-stabbers. Mush will impart to the Americans his skill on how to fool people and get away with it. There is, however, no talk, any more, about his visiting India. I guess he has cried off because he has understood how he will be treated there. If on arrival, he is only stripped and dragged along the streets of Delhi for the crimes committed against India he should count himself lucky.
Please ask mr Kurram, to educate Pakistanis to be honest, truthful and love his neighbour,we sacrifies our lives to creat this coutry,After the death of mohammad Ali Jinnah, every one turned the country upside down, we need people like Musharraf to run the countrynot like the present crooks who stole millions of Dollars and deposited out side thecoutry and still say they are honest.
Shame on Stanford for inviting such a prson as Musharaff who is the epitome of TREACHERY, CORRUPTION, BIG-MOUTHING, DECEIT, and whatever else you could call him. He initiated the Cargil crisis without even Nawas Sharif who was the elected PM of the day. He was instrumental in DOUBLE-ACTIN in the so-called war on terror with the Americans. He gulped more than US$ 12 Billion from them and nourished exactly those who were responsible for 9/11. It is a pity to see that once a prestigious institutin like Stanford could invite a person of Musharaf's caliber to be the BIG SPEAKER. They could have invited Nawaz Sharif or the great philanthropist, Edhi, if they could not find anyone else for this occasion. Shame on Stanford!!!
The root causes of terrorism Musharaf is going to site during his lecture tour is Kashmir and Palestine, in his words "unresolved issues"! Interestingly few years ago, he was giving lecture at Sandurhst, Britain's elite military school. He mentioned that the real problem for now and for future between India and Pakistan is the most valuable resource, water. In coming years, according to him, wars between these two countries will be fought over water sharing and not Kashmir. His own making of Kargil war was biggest flop and blunder and he had to fell at Nawaz Sharif's feet to salvage the situation. Once he told Benazir Bhutto that a plan to capture Shrinagar is ready. When asked, what would he do if at all Shrinagar falls in Pakistani army's hands, he had no answer!
A "fake general" who was successful "State Actor" in faking action against terrorists working under his ISI's command. When he was pushed to the wall and had no other option then he acted in such a way that some people became mesmerised by his tactics. He is the only one person who was responsible for Kargil war and then captured power in pakistan by removing Sharief. he was a fake ally against war on terror, a protector of AQ khan, who was instrumental in getting him pardoned. He is the mother of terrorism against India and other countries. Interesting to see him delivering a lecture on terrorism. He knows terrorism inside out and probably the best "State actor" in the world.
My respect for STANFORD as an Institution of Excellence has gone down with its invitation to the Ex Paki Military Junta Chief Mushraff. What is Mushraff's credentials and track record.supporter of terrorists till 09/11 whom he called Freedom fighters, architect of Kargil,a soldier who does not know to respect his Guest.remember his refusla to salute the Indian PM and the same man shamelessly crawling and extending his hand for friedship.Agreed every one makes mistakes but this man Mushraff is a FRAUD.Shame on STANFORD
Remember the urdu saying, "Duniya zukati hain, zukamewala chahiye". Our Indian leaders, will never be a match to the wily Papis. Even our so called iron lady - not to me though - has made such a mess for us on both sides. Succumbed to the (weak) international pressure created by the Papis' accurate propoganda. We tend to cower easily under pressure. We prove the rule that the dvil's best friend is the empty headed one. We need a full course in learning the ways of this world. A single lecture would not suffice at all. Something does suck somewhere, but definitely not in the south. Papis do know very well how far our reach is. Maan gaye ustad.
I do not like Musharraf. But I have to say something for him. Of all the rulers Pakistan had, he was the cleanest. He has had Pakistan's interests at heart, unlike the others, who were busy selling off the country and feathering their own nests. Now, a man faced with the mass of conflicting interests that Pakistan is due to the selfish machinations of earlier rulers - the military set up in business for itself, the ISI behaving like a state in itself, militant groups behaving like "Ghar Jamais", America treating it as a vassal state and Pakistan accepting it, internecine strife, Kashmir.. can only muddle through. Every day is a new crisis. I would give him credit for the people's movements that sprung up during his time - they would not have if the aspirations of the people had not been given hope by his actions. All the previously subservient institutions suddenly got some spine. We expected miracles - he did not deliver. But he tried. Wait a bit and Pakistan will be thankful to him.
Musharaff: Not only a biggest liar but also a hypocrate. He boasts that his English is superior though it is horrible, copying words from world leaders. He became a army general by fluke. A renowned person has rightly judged him that his intellectuals, ability etc is not more than an army captain rank.He became a terrorist at a very early age by making and exploding a crude bomb.
Let Mush speak at Stanford. Pakis should attend in strength and heckle him and expose him as a traitor to the country, an immoral man who broke his solemn oath to Allah to respect the Constitution, manipulated state institutions to stay in power and, as head of an Islamic state, was anything but a true Muslim in his life style and, above all, brought a bad name to the country.
pakis are nofaced subhumans there is no sympathy for them untill they disband the terrorist outfits that operates from its soil and the main terrorist outfit is isi and paki government .this khurram writes about his ex presidents anti national activities but fails to mansion the harboring of terrorists by their government and people of pak welcomes,so both people and the government is guilty.
I just wonder Stanford University could not find a better person than this 'big lier' to be their 'big speaker'. What is he going to talk about 'Terrorism and Extremism' when he himself is the promoter of terrorism and extremism in the subcontinent. He was a staunch supporter of Taliban until 9/11, he was the architect of Kargil intrusion, he manipulated the Pak judiciary to his own advantage, he has changed the constitution of Pakistan to suit his needs, he was the one who was responsible for all the chaos that is being faced by Pakistan today by annihilating all the established democratic institutions to keep his position in tact. And look at his last utterances on the Mumbai carnage by Pakistani terrorists. He was a dictator to the core and was always talking like a mafia don and not like the Head of a sovereign nation. How come he finds himself in the midst of the intelluctuals of the Standford University? Incredible !!!!!!!!!!
If the invitation to Mr Musharraf by Stanford University is true, it will shake confidence of intellectuals in this premier institution.Recent utterance of Musharraf on the issue of terrorists attacking Mumbai exposes real character of this military dictator. During his tenure as Head of Pak , he was Master of Misrepresentation and buch of lies.
