Pallavi owner surrenders Rs 1 crore to I-T team

Chandigarh, January 31 Tara Chand Associates in Industrial Area surrendered Rs 1 crore to the Income Tax Department during a survey on Wednesday.

The firm owns Pallavi Hotel in Sector 5, Panchkula.

The I-T Department also searched the office of MDLR Airlines in Sector 9, Chandigarh. Six offices of the airlines were searched today: in Sirsa, Gurgaon and Chandigarh.

The airlines is owned by Gopal Kanda and Govind Kanda.

A team led by Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Abhishek Garg, started the survey around 12 pm on Wednesday and continued till 8 am on Thursday.

The survey, said sources, was conducted on the basis of a tip-off regarding the discrepancies in the accounts of Tara Chand Associates.

“I am in no position to say anything as the proceedings are still on. Cash has been surrendered but I cannot comment on the issue,” said Garg.

A team of officials from Income Tax Office, Panchkula, also searched the office of MDLR Airlines in Sector 9 on orders of Director General Office, Delhi. In all, six offices of the airlines- in Sirsa, Gurgaon and Chandigarh were searched.

The search began around 9 am on Thursday and continued till late evening.

A senior I-T officer said, “No comments can be made on the discrepancies found in the accounts as their entire process is online and we didn’t have any records to compare their data with. We have taken the account records and prepared a report which will be sent to the Delhi office”.

During the search at Sirsa, supporters of the airlines reportedly misbehaved with mediapersons and broke their cameras.

According to Sirsa Superintendent of Police Vikas Arora, two FIRs were lodged, one by Income-Tax officers and the other by mediapersons.
