Panchkula, January 30 The Panchkula police sealed a hospital in the city after a raid carried out by them found that the doctor who was running it did not posses valid certificates and documents.

Sandeep Sharma, who claimed to be an MBBS, MS, eye surgeon, had been running Shubham Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Sector 20, for the last few years.

The raids were carried out on the compliant of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kamla Singh. A team of 50 police personnel led by DSP (Headquarters) Abhey Rao swooped on three different centres of the hospital being run from three showrooms and sealed them later.

“The CMO had received a faxed complaint a few days ago that said Sandeep Sharma did not posses any degree. An inquiry into the matter was initiated and a team comprising doctors M L Garg, V K Kakkar and Sarika Malik formed,” said a senior doctor on anonymity.

He said the team visited the hospital on January 28 and asked the doctor to show his certificates. “Sharma said he would show them after two days ‘at a press conference’. When he did not do so on the specified date, we obtained his bio-data from the Internet,” the doctor said.

“Sharma had claimed in his résumé that he had done his MBBS from Rohtak in 1995 and his MS from CMC Hospital, Ludhiana, in 1998. But when we got them verified, it was found out that no such degree had been given to Sharma and all documents possessed by him were fake. We lodged a case with the Sector 5 police,” he added.

Panchkula Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwar said Sandeep Sharma and his staff members managed to flee after the raids but investigations are on and strict action would be taken against them. District Health Officer Dr M L Garg and Dr Manjeet Singh, along with representatives of the CMO, were also present during the raids.
