While many others also filed their nomination papers on day one, the Panchkula DC issued instructions regarding places where the banners and posters for the canvassing purpose by the different candidates can be put after paying a nominal fee.
“The contestants would be allowed to put up banners, hoardings and posters only at the prescribed areas of the ward from March 18 to March 28 after the paying Rs 10 per square feet to the Municipal Council.
Putting up of posters and banners on the government and private institutes and bhawans would attract action under the Defacement of Property Act,” said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria.
It was also said that putting up posters and banners on the main roads, roundabouts, entry points of the city and sector is not permitted. The areas where the banners, hoardings and posters could be put up include specific parks, open spaces and market places in the respective wards.
Those who filed the nomination papers on the first day the nominations at the SDM office in Sector 1 included Kuljeet Waraich (Ward 1), Sharanjit Kaur (Ward 23), both from INLD, Jarnail Singh (BJP) Ward 31, Kasturi Devi (Ward 26), Ramesh Singh (Ward 16) and Mehar Kaur (Ward 1).
