The sleuths, however, have failed to nab Patra, the proofreader of the press, who had allegedly passed the rough copy of the question papers to lawyer Arun Chowdhury and his aide Mihir Dandapat.
The printing press has formed a four-member committee to investigate into the paper leak.
According to the police, the racket was operational for a couple of years and many students had sought its help to excel in the JEE.
The police have learnt about a few students who had bought the question papers and are now studying in the various engineering and medical colleges in the state.
Interestingly, at a time when the police is trying to burst the racket, the state higher education department is in a hurry to conduct the JEE.
The Higher Education Minister Sudarshan Roychowdhury said that the JEE Board will decide on the examination date tomorrow and result of the exam will be published by June 15.
After meeting the state higher education minister today, Chairman of the JEE board Sidhharth Dutta said, “We discussed the date(JEE exam) in light of the upcoming panchayat elections in the state and the dates of other national examinations.”
The board will also consider the issue of the outstation examinees shying away from the JEE this year, before deciding the date of the examination, Dutta said.
