Jalandhar, March 20 Parents of a 25-year-old woman today alleged that their son-in-law had held their daughter captive in Manila with the help of a woman travel agent, who had also separated her one-year-old daughter from her.

Parents alleged that they have filed a police complaint against their son-in-law, but no attempt has been made to arrest him. They were brought here by Avtar Singh Mullapuri and RS Bharowal, senior leaders of the Lok Bhalai Party (LBP) today.

Harchand Singh of Badhni village in Moga said after his daughter Ramneek Kaur got engaged to Ranjit Singh of Moga, she was sent to Manila by a woman travel agent, Amandeep Kaur alias Deepa Boss, who charged Rs 4.5 lakh in January 2006.

The agent also took money from their son-in-law and sent him to Manila, where she solemnised their marriage, said girl's mother Mahender Kaur. After the marriage, Ranjit started torturing their daughter and demanded dowry, they alleged. "We had sent about Rs 18 lakh and met all the demands of Ranjit," said the father.

He said the couple had a year-old daughter, Jagjobanjit Kaur, who was brought to India by Ranjit on March 4 last and handed over to them. He said when they came to know that he had forcibly separated the child from her mother, they complained to the police. "Our daughter informed us on phone that she was being beaten up badly by her husband. She said she wanted to come back, but was being held captive in a village in Manila," added the parents.

Ramneek told her parents that the travel agent has been helping her husband in his evil designs.

Harchand Singh also alleged that he had also paid money to a Mumbai-based travel agent, Pooja, on the directions of Amandeep. He said Ranjit and his family members should be booked for demanding dowry and domestic violence, while Amandeep should be booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy. "The government must initiate steps to bring my daughter back," he said.

They also alleged that when police called up Manila to speak with their daughter, Ranjit brought Amandeep on the line.

Moga SSP Ashok Kumar said, "We have confiscated the passport of Ranjit and also spoke to Ramneek Kaur in Manila, and she informed that she was not keeping well and would come to India soon."
