Parents withdraw kids from karate contest, claim organisers unfair

Chandigarh, January 15 Agitated parents of several participants in the 22 kg weight category of the karate competition organised by the Ambala Sports Karate Do Association, walked out with their wards claiming that organisers have not been fielding children from the same weight category at matches. They claimed that children from heavier categories have easily been able to defeat the light weight category children at the two-day competition organised at the War Heroes Memorial Grounds, Ambala Cantonment.

Sumit Jindal, father of one Vinayak, who is participating in the 22 kg category, said that his son was pitted against a boy of 28 kg which was against the rules of the competition. He said that he along with other guardians, were compelled to withdraw from the competition because of the partiality. However, Hemant Sharma the organiser of the competition has denied the charges.

The Ambala Zila Parishad chairman, Brahmpal Rana, today inaugurated the competition. In today’s matches, Raghav was declared first in the 15.020 kg category, while Utkarsh Das won the title in 20-25 kg category. Lakshit Vij was declared winner in 25-30 kg category.

In girls category, Adrika was declared first in 15-20 kg category and Mansi won the title in 20-25 kg category. Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Shayin will give away the prizes on the concluding day of the competition on Wednesday.
