The body found on a roadside near Griffith last week is yet to be formally identified but police believe it is that of an Indian man, an ABC report said. Australian officers are in touch with the man's family in India and the Indian Consulate to help with identification.
Detectives from State Crime Command will today help local officers in a search of the Willbriggie area where the body was found as part of the investigation into his death.
Nitin Garg, a 21-year old Indian was stabbed to death in Melbourne on Saturday night, becoming the first casualty in a series of attacks on members of the community here. A union organiser at Griffith said he has heard of serious assaults in Willbriggie.
Harry Goring from Australian Workers Union said he was aware of unpaid labourers taking matters into their own hands. Police, however, did not say if they were investigating claims that the man owed money to harvest labourers.
"Over last 12 months there's been two assaults around that area, people endeavouring to retrieve money for labour," Goring said, adding: "I'm not saying for a moment that it's this with this man, but there have been a number of fracas in relation to Indian people pursuing certain individuals". Goring said action is needed to ensure legal processes are followed by contractors.
"From Centrelink to Immigration, Fair Work, Workcover, we all need to do a sustained effort to fix this problem," he said.
Goring said there has been a huge increase in contract labour, particularly Indian students, and many are being ripped off. "It's a weekly occurrence. We don't hear about the one and two's that are happening. It only becomes sensational when a large group gets ripped off," he said.
Contending that he gets weekly complaints about wages being stolen, hr aksed farmers to ensure contractors are legitimate.
"You and I will never know the amount of people who are lining up for payment, and as they're doling out the dollars, where they thought they were going to get USD 200, they then have to barter and argue for a percentage of that amount.
"They arrive on our doorstep without any plans, without accommodation and they are scooped up by so-called contractors," he said.

I live in Australia and am Australian. I want to ask what makes an Australian. There is no particular ethnicity in being Australian. Australians are made up of Chinese, Vietnamese, Turks, English, Indian, Islander, Scot, American, Irish, Afghan, Lebanese, and many, many more. It's really hard to conceive of Australiand as racist. By the way, some Sri Lankans have been arrested for the Griffith murder. They were fleeing Australia and arrested at the airport.
The murderers were fellow Indians you racist people bagging Australia, they were caught trying to flee overseas. Try checking your facts before you start ranting and raving.
USA being a melting pot , is much more racially tolerant compared to other countries. A majority white country elected a black man to the most powerful office in the world . Such a feat is impossible in Australia or UK . Canada is fine too. Better to migrate here. Of course being an American also has perks like having the backing of the CIA and the FBI around the world ;-)
Prav, you need to get out of your cave and smell the roses. The good old USA ain't what is appears to be. I have lived in the USA and Canada and have seen the violence, ghettos and crime. Have a read about American history. Even the original American indians tribes were slaughtered. You obviously live in North America but there in no paradise on this earth, USA or otherwise. Forget the CIA and FBI they couldn't even prevent 9/11. How about the atrocities that occurred on the day India gained independence?

Why do the OZ farmers have to depend on contractors for help on their farms?? why can't they employ people on their own? They obviously benefit from this sort a system and so do the contractors. The suffers are that contract labourers who get cheated by the farmers and the contractors.
In fact the murdered man was an Indian farmer employing Indian contract labour, and was murdered by fellow Indians.
How does anyone know it had anything to do with race , for all we know it could have been another Inidan that killed him. If Australia is so racist then why are there record high number of Inidans immigrating to OZ, why do they pay thousands just to study cooking and hairdressing to get Permanent residency, why do they want to live in a racist country, no one forces them to come to OZ.

Indians should now think twice before migrating to countries like Australia as they are no longer safe. I am an Australian immigrant and I deplore this senseless violence against visitors to my beautiful country. This is not the behaviour of a true-blue Australian but rather it is another minority group who are committing these "unAustralian" crimes. It is not clear why this minority group is targeting Indian students but I can only hope that those outside Australia realise how much real Australian's deplore this kind of behaviour and want it dealt with. However, there is a perception that Australian's are "racist" and therefore there is a reluctance by authorities to act against a minority group because then another overseas country will make accusations that we are racist because we are targeting this group. It is a no win situation for us. But rest assured, nearly all Australian's are not racist - we believe in giving people a fair go and accepting people for what and who they are.

I never experienced any violence as being female I practised safety unlike the majority of the male Indian students. It is not like all the Indians in Oz always play by the rules. The problem of farm contracting and ripping off Indian students is mainly due to Punjabi migrants in Australia and similar countries. The contractors are mainly Punjabi gangsters from Punjab and Delhi region, and they take pride in bringing this "Punjabi culture" to the west. They know that a typical Punjabi is willing to migrate by hook or by crook, recently there was a gang of Punjabis/Sikhs who showed themselves as Catholics to attend annual gathering of them in Australia, and 85% of them disappeared in Auckland on route to Australia. So trust that Manmohan will not do anything about it. Who knows Congress is getting a cut back from these Punjabis.
