“How can you ignore India’s reality and pass the women’s reservation Bill? We may not have the numbers but I will consume poison and die but not allow the passage of the Bill,” Yadav announced in the Lok Sabha while speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address.
The BJP, the JD(U)’s ally in the NDA, however, came out in support of the Bill. “BJP will certainly stand behind the government for the passage of the women’s reservation bill,” Arun Jaitley, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said. BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, acknowledged her party’s differences with the JD(U) over the Bill.
Yadav said the Congress was indulging in “tokenism” by appointing a woman President and Speaker instead of taking concrete steps to liberate poor and backward women.
“Caste is the biggest curse,” he said. “The caste system has been used to suppress a large section of women. Only when the caste system is demolished will the real women of India be empowered. It cannot be done through the tokenism that the Congress is resorting to.”
The women’s reservation Bill was mentioned by President Pratibha Patil in her address to both Houses of Parliament yesterday as part of the government’s 100-day agenda.
SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav have been powerful opponents of the Bill in the past. Asked if he would continue to oppose the Bill, Lalu said on Friday that he would take a decision after the bill is tabled in the House.

Hats off to UPA Govt. for passing reservation bill within 100 days of Govt. comming to power. Dear PMji Please dont heed to the threats of Male Chuvinists. If the Nation is to progress we need the other half also to contribute. They are a very dedicated lot.
There is some stuff in the argument against the womwns bill.The constitutional reservation should be included in the womens catagory also.So the constitutional obligation will be fullfilled. Nobody can obstruct. Why not government not doing like this . The present form will take away some number from the OBC and Sc catagory. This point is to be considered.
Cut down on the dramatics and try to get the numbers Mr. Yadav. This has been the single largest problem of the NDA side of politics. Even when they are right they manage to rub the electorate the wrong way. Get real and do what the opposition is supposed to in a mature manner.

Don't give into emotional blackmail of Mr. Yadav. He can protest the way he likes. Women's status in society is not dependent on a politicians threats. It is in national interest to raise the status of women.
Sharad Yadav threatened suicide if women reservation bill is passed. He almost makes me and switch side and argue for the women reservation bill 1 less foolish leader. Why women are enemies to him?
This blackmailing threat sound like the above Hindi idiom. Have done nothing for the state and country and now resorting to such shaming tactics. Should be tried in court that an elected MP is stating this. Highly preposterous.
Innocent woman never get any good, how ever many laws are brought. Only the woman, who are fit for nothing but have lot of ego and no work would make use of them. These stupid woman spoil the society lawfully now, and make men to fight each other so that over all productivity is gone.In this country we donot any new laws but corrections from very core of system.
Please call his bluff. And if he is not lying, it will make for great reality TV. We could use the TV revenue to initiate programs for the less fortunate. Mr. Yadav, I hope you keep your promise (unlike the many electoral promises you failed to live up to.) Politicians like you are an utter disgrace!!
Politicians like Sharad Yadav have taken the country for a solid ride - by such black mails. He doen't even know what he is talking about- Let him first say whether his family agrees with his black mail. Every one should immediately write to the Prim Minister to pass the Bill AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and the posterity would thank the PM for the yeomen service in getting rid of some rogues.

His antagonism to electing women to any position of importance in Indian politics is devoid of any rationale and borders on a pathological fixation of a sick mind. These kind of threats for a wrong reason by a politician shows the level of intelligence in our national politicians. I hope Mr. Sharad Yadav will find peace in his act while the World will rejoice such a cowardly act by a cowardly politician for a stupid cause. Which World and age is he living in? This is the 21st century where women play a very important role in every aspect of our lives, especially in the political arena. Get a life Mr. Sharad Yadav. It is time for you to quit. Why should women needs reservation to enter parliament? Smt. Indira Gandhi entered politics and became PM of India was on Reservation? Now so many women are actively in politics, Ms. Jayalalitha, Mayawati, Renuka Chowdhry, Sheela Dixit, Rly. Minister Ms. Banerjee, Sonia Gandhi all of them are under reservation? I am no supporter of reservation, be it women's reservation or some other kind of reservation. Now that Sharad Yadav has promised to kill himself, I am going to support Women's reservation bill just for the heck of it. Mother India will have one less dumb politician to deal with. Hey, Sharad, dummy, you won't change your mind after the bill is passed, right? A promise is a promise.
