Chandigarh, February 19 Delhi-bound passengers of Chandigarh are facing probelms after Haryana Roadways withdrew the Volvo bus service. The Libra bus providers withdrew its Volvo buses from February 14. Nearly eight Volvo buses provided by the company were plying on the Chandigarh-Delhi route.

The company officials complain that the roadways was not honouring the contract conditions. A company official said, “Even if buses broke down due to technical faults, we were asked to arrange taxis for the passengers. The amount was deducted from our fee.”

Meanwhile, officials claimed that the buses were deliberately taken off the roads as the bus service provider did not comply with rules and regulations.

Kulwant Singh Kalsan, general manager of Haryana Roadways said, “The contract was supposed to expire in September. We had also got a stay order against the withdrawal of buses. However, officials from Libra withdrew the buses without any prior intimation. We have filed a contempt application. We also plan to take further legal action.”

However, in all this mudslinging by the roadways and company officials, it is the commuters who are facing numerous problems.

Ramesh Miglani, a regular passenger to Delhi said, “I am facing problems after the Haryana Volvo bus service was stopped. Though Punjab and Himachal Roadways also operates Volvo bus services, the Haryana buses were more comfortable and ran on time”.

Susheel, another city resident said, “The officials did not inform the general public about the withdrawal of the buses. The government should take responsibility for the situation.”
