Mumbai, January 14 Coming from ‘football country’, Fabio dos Passos may be small in stature when compared to the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo or Ronaldinho. Like every Brazilian footballer, he too has come with his footballing culture to influence the game in India, but in the process, the 29-year-old himself has been influenced.

Three years ago, Passos came to give the Indians a taste the Brazilian samba and he played his heart out for Salgaocar. But he was not fortunate enough to single-handedly save the sinking club from the relegation zone. He cried like a baby that year.

Last year, Salgaocar played in the second division and demonstrated a competitive football spirit. They proved to be strong competitors, but could not live up to expectations. After a year’s gap, Passos joined the team again, but they are still in the same position like two years ago.

He is aware of the situation and says, “I’m here to help out Salgaocar and give my best for the team.” He gives a same loyalty to Salgaocar that he received and says, “When I came back here after a year, I did not ask them how much they will pay me. I knew they would give me a higher fee than last year. It’s the mutual trust that we have.” And this is one of the reasons why Salgaocar will always be his first preference in India.

Last year, he was busy trying his luck in Dubai, but did not strike gold. Now, all thanks to the Mohun Bagan physio, Robson Matos, Salgaocar got in touch with him and this year he is back to help out the team. Salgaocar coach Savio Medeira also confirms: “After he joined us, the team looks stable. Passos’ intelligence, ball holding and passing skills are quite impressive”.
