Past receipts: Pakistan still owes India Rs 300 crore

New Delhi Pakistan is yet to clear a pre-partition debt of Rs 300 crore to India, which has been carrying forward year after year in its Budget account as a "liability".

The Budget books refer to this Rs 300 crore as "amount due from Pakistan on account of share of pre-partition debt."

The amount was entered as a liability in the first Budget of independent India in 1950-51 and has been there ever since. But this a measly amount compared to the union government's total liabilities that total Rs 34,95,452 crore and accounts for just 0.008 per cent of the total liabilities.

However, in 1950-51 this amount accounted for more than 10 per cent of India's total liabilities of Rs 2,865.40 crore and nearly 10 times of India's total external debt of Rs 32 crore.

Surprisingly, New Delhi has not added interest to this amount since its entry in the books. However, India has cleared its share of the pre-partition debt of Rs 50 crore soon after independence in 1947.

Pakistan still owes India Rs 300 crores by Ali Ahmed on 20 Jul 2009

(part-2)......disclose unsettled claims amounting to Rs. 3,316 million (332 crore) against Government of India and Reserve Bank of India all dating back to 1947However my claim can also be rejected on the same basis as we reject the Dravidians. But apart from these financials, if somebody is still not satisfied historical documents can be looked into published by the British India library and net will be a claim by us on Hindustan. If still there exists an unsatisfied soul out there across LOC let me ask a question: Why did Gandhi gee fast right after partition? How did your Nehru chacha break his fast by agreeing to something that “Iron Man” of India was strongly against? If you Hindustanis have the courage to answer these questions, then I want my remaining money back.

Nathu and his admirers by Jem Hassan on 08 Jul 2009

There is no truth behind saying Nathu killed our father of nation because of 55 crors..and Gandhiji never went on hunger strike to pay pakistan any money..infact he was agianst the partition...and he went on strike for stopping the riots..RSS chaddiwals spread alot of lies to justify what anti-national Nathu..namak haraam did to a person who sacrificed his whole life for our freedom...now it is clear that these Sanghis make any fluke to admire him....but Indians are not idiots...

RSS .....TRUE INDIANS by raj on 28 Jul 2009

These chaddi wala's are only guys give shelter and food to hindus and indians came from pakistan .They also protect them from muslims .In A real sense they are true warriors

Write off it by rammohan on 07 Jul 2009

Being an islamic country give them a special deal.Special packages are very normal to get the vote bank, so just write it off like farm loan, Lap top loan, minister's childrens world tour etc. If you give special treatment to Pakis so many muslims will vote for Rahul for ever.

Not all Pakistanis, Just the leaders by Dan on 07 Jul 2009

Most Pakistanis are poor and innocent. Just the leaders, army and ISI should be tried for destroying SE ASIA. Without ISI, mullahas won't have any place to hide.

Indian money by Indi on 07 Jul 2009

Present UPA and congress govt will fore go this debt to appease there vote banks. Pity that India is ruled by a party of sycophants who has little concern for the country. We need leaders like Sardar patel, Lal Bahadhur shastry. They are true congress leaders and true Indians, not the fake gandhis and there servants who are looting India. Sardar Patel was to become the first PM of independent India. Had he been the first PM of independent India we would not have had these fake gandhis and there servants looting India as they are doing now.

Pakistan still owes India Rs 300 crores by Premangsu Chowdry on 07 Jul 2009

This is a matter of payment of dues by a country not yet bankrupt, but with a big mouth against India. The time has come to settle this amount with interest, and, if necessary, by the age-old method by our Ministry of Commerce and Trade.

300 crore issue also has to do with Gandhiji's assasination by SN Vyas on 07 Jul 2009

The article mentions that India paid of 50 crore rupees to Pakistan soon after partition. The truth is this, gandhiji went on hunger strike to force India to pay Rs 55 Crores to Pakistan, while Hindus were being slaughtered in Pakistan soon after partition. In fact Nathuram Godse termed them as 55 koti che baLi - people sacrificed with 55 crores. In fact it was Gandhiji's insistence on paying Paksitan 55 crores even though Pakistan owed India 300 crore rupees was one of the triggers that Nathurm used to justify Gandhiji's assasination. Is it trivial any more?

No, Nothing by MrM on 06 Jul 2009

Pakistan says they do not have Dawood, Tiger Memon, chota shakeel, Hafeez(Let head) and 300 Crore in Pakistan

amount due from Pakistan by Guru Bhai on 06 Jul 2009

They are working hard day in and day out to produce atomic b-mb and Pakistan has promised that they will deliver it free of cost to India and not only that they are also not charging shipping to any city of India.

War reparations due from Pakistan too by observer on 06 Jul 2009

Not only Rs 300 crores plus interest but Pakistan should also be subject to a Nuremberg type trial and charged and tried for its acts of terror against India.War reparations should be exacted from Pakistan for its crimes against humanity and the nation should be wiped off the world map. Till then there will be no peace on Earth.

Wondering by ithin on 06 Jul 2009

Wondering if we have anybody in India really cares about it? They give us back as bombs and terror.

Convert 300 Crores of 1947 into today's amount by SN Vyas on 06 Jul 2009

This news item conveniently forgets that Pakistan's debt of Rs 300 Crore is from pre Partition debt. Now that is equal to Rs 3 Billion of 1947. At that time Re-dollar exchange rate was 2.5 Rs = 1 dollar. Thus Pakistan owes $1.2 Billion in today's amount. Is it a paltry sum anymore ? Let's look at it other way, if an individual were to owe an amount to Income tax department this amount in 1947, how much interest and penalty would have been charged to the taxpayer ? I bet, the amount would be even higher than $ 1.2 Billion.Throw the rascal Pakis out till they pay the debt.Cheers !

upa wont ask by Indi on 07 Jul 2009

No buddy. Upa will and congress will not ask this amount from pakistan for the fear of losing there vote banks in India.

you are sorely missed Vallabh Patel by jay on 06 Jul 2009

Oh Vallabh Patel, are you sorely missed. Where are you? Did you leave any cells behind that could be cloned? None of the individuals including Nehru were have been able to take care of this Pakistan issue once and for all.
