The minister was here today to inaugurate a conference on pathology, organised by the North West Chapter of Indian Association of Pathology and Microbiology, at Government Rajindra Medical College.
Sood said that a grant of Rs 3.67 crore has been earmarked for upgradation of the Nursing College here and the requisite permission for the same has already been received from the Punjab government.
He said that Punjab has earmarked 11 per cent of its annual budget for medical education and research. He further added that the Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, would soon meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to include the upgradation plan of Patiala Medical College under the Pradhan Mantri Sehal Surakhya Yojna that would help it to get a grant of Rs 100 crore.
He said the Hospital System Consultancy Corporation would do the work on upgradation of medical and nursing colleges in the state.
He also disclosed that a sum of Rs 140 crore has already been earmarked for upgradation of Amritsar Medical College and another Rs 60 crore has been earmarked for the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot. He said a research centre would be opened at Patiala’s Ayurvedic College with an investment of Rs 3.
