Islamabad Pakistan said it was "regrettable" that India had put the bilateral composite dialogue process on hold after the Mumbai attacks as all countries of the region need to work jointly to counter terrorism.

Information Minister Sherry Rehman told reporters that Pakistan would continue to work with Afghanistan, India and other countries in the region to deliver on the people's mandate for peace but it was regrettable that India had put a "pause in the composite dialogue process".

Replying to a question on the Indian dossier regarding the Mumbai attacks, she said the Pakistan government will present its response in "due time".

She added: "Pakistan has well-established institutional mechanisms that we follow as we proceed in formulating meaningful responses."

Rehman said Pakistan wants to maintain friendly ties with all its neighbours, including Afghanistan and India. "We continue to stress and pursue regional cooperation on our western and eastern borders to fight terrorism. We have seen that neither war mongering nor blame game serves the interest of peace."

The ability of terrorists to maintain a presence in the region and operate trans-nationally calls for a coordinated response to the threat, Rehman said.

She added that "there is no refuting the fact that all countries of the region need to jointly work to address the issue of terrorism".

Pakistan's democratic government is committed to promoting peace and progress in keeping with the people's mandate as terrorism undermines efforts for social and economic empowerment, she said.

Pakistan's efforts for cooperation and strengthened ties with all its neighbours, including Afghanistan and India, are a manifestation of its commitment to regional peace and stability, she added.

At the same time, the world must recognise Pakistan's issues while engaging with it, Rehman said.

Referring to the war on terror, Rehman said, "Unilateral actions by our international partners are counter-productive, fuelling public anger and resentment. Repeated drone attacks on our territory could deepen the crisis as these are an impediment to Pakistan's democratic government's efforts to bring about peace and order in the country."
