Pbi V-C inaugurates two-day seminar on Punjabi

Patiala, January 15 Punjabi University Vice- Chancellor Jaspal Singh inaugurated a two-day seminar on “Punjabi Lokdhara ate Adunikta: Rupantaran ate Punarmulankan” at the Senate Hall on Tuesday. He claimed that the glory and grandeur of Punjabi language, art and culture would not be diluted. The seminar is being jointly organised by the University’s Punjabi Department and Punjabi Academy, New Delhi.

Pbi V-C Jaspal Singh said that folklore also played a pivotal role in providing a strong base to the revolutionary ideas. He said that the originality of Punjabi folklore must be viewed in global perspective.

He announced that Punjabis should help in organising the World Punjabi conference in April. He also released a book “ Punjabi Stage Kav”. Rajinderpal Singh Brar has written the book.

Noted Punjabi poet Surjit Pattar rated folklore as the fifth “Veda”.

He said that folklore rejuvenates itself with continuous social dialogue and interaction. It also provides a broader base for the growth of human relationships.

Jaswinder Singh said that some aspects and dimensions of Punjabi folklore was changing and vanishing, as a result of the media onslaught and commercial tendencies.

Rawel Singh, Secretary, Punjabi Academy, talked about the need to develop better coordination among agencies working for the promotion of Punjabi.
