Sources say the conflict between the pensioners led to the intervention by the authorities. The Welfare Association had set up the Home on the grants by the Punjab government.
The Home was envisaged as a solution for those destitute pensioners who were living on the edge in the last stage of their lives. The Home proposed to provide a temporary shelter to these aged pensioners.
The Punjab Pensioners Welfare Association has now demanded that they be given the charge of the Home and the locks of the Home be opened with immediate effect, to help start the proposed welfare works.
Jagjit Singh Dua, Association general secretary, Sat Paul Rahi, senior vice-president and president Harminder Singh Rana said that though the Patiala DC has ordered the opening of locks of the Pensioners Home, the same be done immediately and premises be handed over to carry out the construction and other works at the earliest. They have also sought the return of Home records and furniture, which has been taken away by the local authorities.
