Jabalpur, February 6: Forced to reschedule his nation-wide rallies in the wake of security concerns, senior BJP leader L K Advani attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's track record on tackling terrorism and asserted that his rallies will continue.

Addressing a rally in Jabalpur which was scheduled to be the launch of his ‘Sankalp Yatra’, he sought to know from the Prime Minister whether Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru has been given ‘unofficial clemency’ and the number of terrorist modules busted by his government in the last three-and-a-half years.

In his first public meeting after securing a stamp of approval by the NDA as its prime ministerial candidate, Advani attacked the Congress saying the unresolved boundary issues with Pakistan and China are the legacy of successive Congress governments and blamed it for virtually all the problems faced by the country.

Advani posed four questions to Manmohan Singh – whether Afzal Guru has been given unofficial clemency, disclose the progress of investigation in terror attacks since 2004, number of terror modules busted and militants arrested or killed and steps taken to check Bangladeshi infiltration in Assam.

Referring to postponement of his rallies, he said government has sought some time to provide enough security and the party has decided to reschedule the programme and not cancel.

"The rallies will continue and I want to tell the terrorists that no political party in India is afraid of them," he said.

"I can say right now that the Prime Minister will answer none of these questionss because he does not have the courage to tell the truth to the nation," Advani said addressing the rally at the Garrison Ground in this cantonment town.

The truth, Advani said was that ‘Congress party's inaction is dictated by its short-term vote bank considerations, because of which it is imperilling the country's unity, integrity and security in the long term’.

Continuing to target Singh, the Leader of the Opposition said, "India today is in need of strong leadership that can tackle the threat of Jehadi terrorism’ and ‘resolve the big legacy problem that India has inherited from the past bungling by Congress governments’.

Claiming that ‘people of India are looking for a change at the Centre, Advan said they are, however, not looking only for a change in government but looking for a change in politics. They want a new kind of politics’.

In his hour-long speech, Advani accused of Congress of being responsible for India having lost territories during wars with Pakistan and China and charged it with going soft against terrorism.

"Successive Congress governments including the Congress-led UPA one, have reduced India to a soft state, one that lacks the political will at the top to confront the enemy and neutralise him," he said.

"Today, India has been saddled with unresolved boundary problems with two of our big neighbours--Pakistan and China. Both problems were created due to bungling of Congress governments", Advani said.

He said BJP was committed to good governance, development and security and pledged to provide an alternative culture of governance rooted in these ideals.

Advani charged the government with failing to tackle price rise and corruption saying its policies have made life difficult for the people of the country.

Claiming that the previous NDA government had launched several ambitious ideas and programmes for India's development, he said, "because of the non-performance of the UPA government in the past nearly four years, many more tasks have been added to the challenges before us."

He said India wants a strong leadership which can end the plight of farmers, fight corruption at the top level, accelerate employment-oriented economic growth, bring down prices and end ‘betrayal’ of the common men.

Advani said elections to the Lok Sabha can be held before time, even along with assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh later this year, and asked partymen to be prepared for the challenge.

In a clear message to party leaders, he asked them to be humble, accessible to people and maintain a clean image.

"Our leaders should not be dishonest and should be accessible to people as they are supreme," he said.

Men of Yesterday by Anant on 08 Feb 2008

No doubt India needs a change in leadership and require proactive government. Unfortunately there is no party in India that can take India into the future and build national pride. People like Modi /Advani /Thackerays etc etc are all corrupt and play divisional and religious politics for their own selfish motives. There is not a single soul, excluding Manmohan Singh and Vajpayee, who are honest and have only the national agenda at heart. Both are old and belong to political parties that are totally unrepresentative of themselves. India needs a total overhaul and new blood must come from the young of India to take their nation forward irrespective of religion or community. India needs unity and that is a very scarce commodity in India. India is divided on communal and religion grounds and the rogue politicians take full advantage of this weakness. First of all India needs to educate their young with community spirit and respect for each other and discard the heavy burden of corruption in their society. Advani/Modi are all men of no conscience and for their own glory. Such people should be taken to task and not made leaders.

Terrorism by Mohandas on 07 Feb 2008

Hi,I should say real paradox that Advani criticizes Manmohan Singh on tackling terrorism.Advani should have remembered the terrorists attacks on Parliament and the like when he was India's Home minister.Instead of criticizing one another, all political parties should come together and plan out ways to arrest the terrorism in our country.

Political morons - time immemorial! by Dr.G.G.Rajan on 07 Feb 2008

It is a pity that right from Mahatma's time, no intelligent politician ever emerged till day who can unite the masses and throw away caste, creed and religion.Only pseudo secularists and minotity supporters for vote bank thrive.Such is the fate of our country!

Advani's politics is a threat to national security by Ms Pseudo Secular on 07 Feb 2008

What he is talking about? We should not let our Muslim citizens be in any discomfort. So what if Afjal is given clemency, so what if our parliament was attacked? For communal harmony we Hindus should always bow down in front of Muslims and fulfil all their demands even if they host Pakistani flags, don’t sing national song and want to make India Daru-ul Islam. WE should always let them do what they want. That is true secularism. thats how we can have communal harmony.

India Needs bi party System by Ajai Rajput from Boston USA on 06 Feb 2008

Mr. NARINDER I am not agree with this idea, this is not healthy argument, don’t kill Congress party as whole, people will teach them a lesion and they have to correct themselves, India need a bi party system growing regionalism, coalition government like even if they have just 1 or 2 percentage of total vote strength they dictate to whole country, for example Laloo, Left and DMK, PMK al are dictating their on terms and condition, honest PM does have a miserable situation, that’s what India need a strong Leader and a strong party which should have better working capability to change the system. Look forward don’t go who did what in past, which can do better for future with existing party system that is more important.
