Raunak Roy and Bipasha Roy have been married for more than five years now. While Raunak works as a technical writer in one of the corporate companies in the city, his real passion lies in cooking. And Italian cuisine is an all-time favourite. "Eggplant Parmesan is one of my wife’s favourite dishes, and I try to create different variations to keep things interesting. Cut the eggplants lengthwise into one inch thick slices. Place a few slices in a strainer and sprinkle with a little of the salt. Continue to slice the eggplants and place them in the colander with salt. Place a plate that just covers the eggplant on top, and then weigh it down with a heavy can or canister. Let the eggplant drain in the sink for about 45 minutes. Pat the eggplant dry. While the eggplant is being purged of any bitterness, begin the sauce by heating olive oil in a heavy saucepan. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute or two. Next, add tomatoes, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes. Cook for about 30 minutes over low heat until the sauce has thickened. Add the chopped basil and mix well," effervesces Roy.

Roy has been cooking since his college days and he claims that it were his culinary skills that helped him woo Bipasha. He shares the secret of his signature dish- seafood lasagne that he also plans to cook on March 8. "I find that seafood lasagne too often tastes a little bland. But my recipe, which adds layers of spinach sautéed with garlic in between the seafood layers certainly is anything but bland. Although a little time-consuming, this dish is perfect for any special event. The presentation is also very pretty and I can’t wait to see twinkle in Bipasha's eyes when she will see it on our dining table," he beams.

B Shankaranarayan, record label owner loves to cook for his wife every now and then. His food always tastes good and always makes his wife feel special. Her friends are evidently envious because while they thrive on the quotidian bread and butter, she enjoys scrumptious dosa and delish adai. His Kerala style nutritious, easy-to-make adai-dosa, which he says is quite difficult to find in a restaurant, is made by him often, much to the delight of his guests. He is also an expert on making ice creams and cocktails. He hasn't learnt to make these dishes but has just picked them up while watching his mother cook. What adds the cherry on top of the already iced cake is the fact that the man of the house cleans up the kitchen after he is done with the cooking. But the seemingly perfect husband comes with a sliver of a peccadillo-- he can't load the dishwasher. His wife of 25 years, Sheela Narayan loads the dishwasher for the domestic cordon bleu and he proceeds to wash the dishes too.

Karan Chaturvedi and Chandni Bahri, who have been together for the past one and a half years in Pune, are celebrating International Women's Day with Karan cooking for his girlfriend Chandni like he usually does. Ask Chandni what plans do they have for the day and she can just guess because he has not told her yet. "Well, I wish he would take me out for dinner but not to a restaurant. Some place secluded where he can cook dinner for me. We can follow it up with wine and chocolates. I want him to sing for me and then we can dance the night away," she says. She is not much off the mark from guessing his plans for the day. " He will indeed cook for her. Anything and everything but, trust me, not the wine," he laughs. "There will be the chocolates and the flowers and I do not mind the song and dance as well but no wine." So does he like cooking for her? "I anyways like cooking, and I love cooking for her," he stresses. "Nobody taught me to cook. I learned it on my own. I usually make her omelettes, poha or sandwiches for breakfast, but she likes omelettes the most. I break two eggs and add the requisite salt, black pepper, chilli powder and a very little amount of turmeric to it. I put the pan on the stove then and add loads of butter to it - more than fifty gram, pour the mixture, and there is her omelette. She likes cheese pizzas as well and I indulge her," he grins. Chandni on her part says she simply adores his cooking. "I love it when he cooks."

Prashant Holkar, a communication professional wears the apron whenever his loving wife wants him to cook for her and he plans to cook his way to her heart all over again on this Intenational Women's day. He tosses in his skillet -his wife's favourite pastas and salads. Walk into their kitchen on this Saturday afternoon and you will see Prashant making pasta with pomodoro sauce or with cheese sauce according to his wife's liking. His speciality is the bruschetta and the mista salad with carrots, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, chinese cabbage, olive oil sautéed together in a pan. Naina Holkar, his wife says she is lucky that she has a husband who cooks wholeheartedly for her. About their celebrations on International Women's Day, a pregnant Naina says, "He always surprises me on special occasions. So we haven't yet decided about out plans. But he will put his brains to it and come up with some special idea." Prashant has learnt his skills from reading books and exploring different cuisine.
