When designer JJ Valaya first announced the formation of the Valaya Magic Foundation, a charitable organisation to look after the girl child, the decision had met with mixed reactions. But within the two years of its inception, the foundation has gone from strength to strength, expanding its family and adding more and more initiatives in its fold. The latest on the front was an innovative charitable fashion show for dogs, called The Magic Collar Haute Carnival Dog Show that had the city designers and celebs joining in, in full gusto.

“We chose a high-end dog show instead of a polo match or an art auction because it’s unique and we knew the response would be good. The idea is to have a relaxed Sunday afternoon with good food, watch our best friends walk the ramp in designer clothes and do our bit for charity,” said Valaya, who plans to make it an annual event.

Dog owners shelled out a whopping Rs 5,000 to get their pets to walk the ramp at a quaint farmhouse in Chhatarpur. The dogs were then judged on the basis of their personality, grooming, looks and obedience, with the winner in each category earning a crystal collar, made especially by Swarovski for the occasion. Restaurateur A D Singh created a special menu for the guests.

The pets had more pampering in store. Valaya, Manish Arora, Rohit Bal and Rajesh Pratap Singh showcased a line of dog coats and tees with animal messages for their masters, which were on sale after the grand finale.

The afternoon saw participation from socialite Nafisa Ali, furniture designers Raseel and Naveen Ansal, designers Gauri and Nainika Karan as well as Ashish Soni, all of whom came with their dogs. The grand finale was a gala affair with the designers walking the ramp with their dogs. The maximum number of prizes was won by a chow chow named Jack, who then bagged the Champion of Champions award along with a sterling silver trophy.
