Lahore A petition seeking the trial of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on treason charges was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, court officials said.

A man named Zahid Hussain filed the petition in the apex court's Lahore registry. The petition claimed that Musharraf had “violated the constitution” two times in his rule during 1999-2008.

Hussain requested the apex court to issue orders to concerned authorities to register a case of treason against the former army chief on charges of violating the Constitution.

He urged the court to register another case against Musharraf for violating the oath of the Pakistan Army and also called for the former President to face a court martial.

Another petition seeking a bar on Musharraf travelling abroad has been filed in the Supreme Court. Musharraf regularly travels abroad for lectures and is scheduled to visit China later this month.

He has visited the US, Britain and India since his resignation last year.

The petitions against Musharraf have been filed at a time when Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, who was sacked by the former President in 2007, has resumed duties after being reinstated by the government.
