The CM made this announcement while addressing the Punjab Police personnel and their families during the annual passing out parade at the Punjab Police Academy.
Badal said the modalities regarding the setting up of the university would be charted out within the next two months.
While congratulating all the officers and the police jawans on the successful completion of their training courses, Badal called upon them to perform their duties with utmost dedication, respecting the rule of law and be a symbol of security to the common man.
He further said the police should command respect from people rather than create fear in their minds.
The Chief Minister announced Rs 2 crore for the infrastructural development of the police academy, besides Rs 25-lakh grant from his discretionary fund for the development of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Police Public School, Phillaur. Badal also authorised the Director, Police Academy to arrange subject experts from the country as well as abroad to impart high-quality training to the police.
Lauding the role of Phillaur police academy in running various training courses and organising state-level seminars, the
Chief Minister said the academy had the distinction of being the first police training institution in Asia to impart MA, M.Phil and PhD levels in police administration.
Considering the demands put forth by Rajdeep Singh Gill, DGP-cum-Director, Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, Badal said 21 law officers would be appointed in the academy to strengthen the faculty of law and special incentives would also be provided to officers of the academy on the pattern of the Vallabh Bhai Patel Police Academy in Hyderabad.
In his report, Gill emphasised the need to sensitise police personnel about issues related to human rights, cyber crime, economic offences, and crime against women, children and other vulnerable sections of the society.
Earlier, Badal took salute from an impressive march-past of 1,483 trainees of various basic and promotional courses who were passing out under parade commander Probationary Lt Yeshay T Phuntsho of Bhutan. The trainees belong to different states of the country as well as Bhutan and Maldives. The Chief Minister also gave away prizes to those trainees who got distinction in different activities during the training.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Harcharan Bains, senior Akali leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar and Director General of Police NPS Aulakh, besides senior police and civil officers.
