Nagapattinum is the railway station nearest to Vailankanni, 11 kilometres away.
The CR authorities say they are actively considering the demand while devotees say the CR has not yet given them a positive response.
Charlie Rosario, a member of the Vailankanni Pilgrims Association (VPA), said, “Due to non-availability of a proper train service, pilgrims have to face problems in reaching the shrine. There is a demand from devotees for direct trains from Mumbai to Nagapattinam until the Vailankanni railway line is completed, as Nagapattinam Railway Station is only 11 km from the shrine. Our demand is being ignored by the CR.”
Incidentally, a project is under way to connect Vailankanni with the railway network.
On the request of devotees, Congress leader Gurudas Kamat had written to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting her to provide a Mumbai-Nagapattinam train on August 26-27 and a train back to Mumbai on September 9-10. The VPA has also forwarded a petition to the Railway Minister and senior railway officers requesting a special train for the festival.
Recently, train services were provided from Mumbai to Pandharpur and Madgaon for Hindu pilgrims. Leslie Carvalho, a VPA member said, “So why can’t they give us a special train to Nagapattinam? This is injustice.”
When contacted, S Mudgerikar, Chief Public Relations Officer, CR, said, “CR is aware of their demand. It is under active consideration.”

We would be very thankful if the Railway concider our request to avail us a direct train from Mumbai to Nagapattinam as the journey from chennai to Vailankanni is so difficult specialy with old people & childreen.we would like to be at the pilgrim shrine with our heart & soul not with a sick body & mind attending our nine days.in short its my prayer to the railway help us travel to vailankanni by alloting us a direct train from mumbai to velankanni. Thank you so much

Indian Railways is really doing a great job by providing special trains when required(for eg. Holiday spl, Ganpati festival spl..) Last years Nagappatinam spl. was really benificial to many pilgrims. I would request the concern authorities to start the train this year too on 26th-27th aug 2011 which would help many of us.

I would request the concern authorities to start the train from LTT TO NAGAPATINAM VIA KONKAN RAILWAY ONCE A WEEK SO THAT PEOPLE OF GOA, MANGALOE AND KERALA ARE BENEFITED. AT PRESENT THEY HAVE PLANNED TO START FROM VASCO WHY NOT FROM LTT.

At the movement Direct direct No. 0675 is started from Vasco (Goa) to Nagapatinam on every mondays and reaches Nagapatinam on Tuesday night and leaves Nagapatinem on Wednesday train No. 0676 and reaches Vasco on Thursday night. This train is speical train via Konkan Railway for this feastivel season. We are thankful for the same. Why can the authorities start the same train from Dadar around in the afternoon and reach Madgaon the same time as now and back also to Dadar. Why can't the authorities make this train on permanent basis. We have this demand form long time and now the train already strated through Konkan Railway make it permenant from Dadar because all the people from Mumbai, Goa, Mangalore and Kerala will be able to go to the Shrine of Vailankanni. Majority of these Devoties go from this place. Our Lady of Vailankanni will surely Bless those who help us to continue this train from Dadar via Konkan railway to Nagapatinam. Last year during feastival direct train was flagged off from Dadar to Nagapatinam only for one day. and then it was discontinued. I request the authorities to introduce at least one train once a week from Dadar to Nagapitnam on regular basis. Railway lines and everything is ready but I cannot understand why railways are hesitating to introduce train from Dadar to Nagapatinam. Recently, railways had introduced train from CST to Saibabanagar for the benefit of people of Shridi. So also the direct train was introduced from CST to Tirupati for tbe benefit of pligrims. Then was not for the benefit of pilgrim of Vailankanni. I only hope our Lady put in the minds of the concern authorities - our Hon. We want a direct train facility from Goa to Nagappatinam, Parents who have small kids it becomes very difficult to visit the Shrine. Our Govt should do something
Atlast after 10 years the train was flagged by by Ms. Hilda from Vasai from Dadar. The train reached Nagapattinam on time but was not allowed to enter the Platform for some communication error. The train departed from Nagapattinam on 9th September for Mumbai. We thank each and everyone especially Hon. Railway Minister for approving this train.
We need a direct train to Nagapattinam from Dadar (Mumbai).When will the railway authorities consider our plea? We have pleaded with them for the last 10 years. But they seem to be putting our requests over deaf ears? Why? Because we are Christians? What if a Hindu had to make this request? Their requests would have been granted immediately.
We urgently need a direct train from Dadar to Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu). At present, there is a train only up to Chennai. From Chennai, we pilgrims who attend the annual feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni in Vailankanni have to take an autorickshaw to the bus depot or Egmore railway station. From Egmore railway station, we have to take another train to Nagapattinam. From Nagapattinam, we again have to take a bus to Vailankanni. It is very inconvenient. So why can't the railways give us a direct train from Mumbai to Nagapattinam?
Hi iam savio rodrigues from bhayander Ok first of all i don't like travling in bus bcoz after chennai we have to take a bus to vailankani and it take 9hours to vailankani i belive buses r not safe and icase if ladies wants to go to toilet so that all so become very diffical And iam going in coming jan to vailankani and hope so it will at that time train journy is a safe journy So IT IS AN REQUEST TO CENTRAL RAILWAY FROM US THANKS U
As many mumbaikars wish to go to vellankanni there should be a direct train from mumbai to vellankanni if not atleat from tiruchirapalli. i hope that guage work at velannkanni should get completed before end of this year

C.RLY AND S.RLY SHOULD JOINTLY WORK TOWARDS DIRECT TRAIN TO VAILANKANNI SOONEST FOR CHRISTIAN IN GENERAL AND OTHERS IN PARTICULAR.CHRISTIANS BY THEIR REASONABLE POPULATION HAVE CONTRIBUTED MANIFOLD/FOUR FOLD TO OUR MOTHERLAND PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY EULOGISING CHRISTIANS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATION WILL BE INADEQUATE. A NATION BUILDING COMMUNITY.INDIAN RLYS. CAN DO A SMALL BIT FOR INDIAN CHRISTIANS.
